    NA. How to treat parents?

Figured i'd ask the hivemind here since i'm sure someone has experience in this area. Bit of background my parents have recently retired and I live local so I try to visit once every 2 weeks or so. This is slowly becoming a chore. After retirement they have essentially become ultra religious...

    Living the dream

So about 3 years after I decided to switch careers I finally made it to the (regional)airlines and through IOE and thought I'd give my initial impressions. Flying. Going from piston singles was an adjustment, not so much for the speed cause 30 minutes in the sim and seeing 300kts in cruise or...

first 1000 hours of dual given.

I started work as a cfi near the end of February and have survived my 1st 1k hours quite a bit easier than i expected. I've solo'd about 65 students ( with only one issue when someone hit a taxi light) . Checkrides I have some passes and 1 failure (he busted on shortfield). Given multiple...

    Overtime as cfi

So I work as a CFI in Alabama enjoy my job but we don’t get overtime pay. Bama doesn’t have any overtime or lunch break laws so FLSA applies. We get between 40-60 hrs a week are full time w2 employees but don’t get time and a half for over 40. My understanding is that they are counting on a...

Most important tip for new CFI's

Whatever alcohol you have on your desk is usually the type of alcohol you will get from students. Pro tip if you want something new borrow a "seed bottle" of something else from another cfi. Bonus tip, leave the expensive stuff on your desk to inspire further purchases of the $$$ drinks.

    First week instructing.

Right rudder. More right rudder. Watch your coordination. Balls still out of the cage. You can use trim, sure you got it trimmed out right? trim the nose down a bit here. Grabs controls 5 min later and it wants to pitch up 20 degrees. On landings more backpressure more more more hold it hold it...

    CFI checkride writeup

So in Nov took a bit of a crash course for my CFI and after almost 2 months of delayed checkrides finally got to take it. Going into it I was a bit intimidated had heard about so many long orals and that this guy was an engineer and really got into the weeds on aerodynamics and systems. Day...

    Chandelles

Well i was assigned Chandelles to teach for my CFI stuff and I've run into a problem and my newbie cfi didn't quite explain it to my satisfaction. So how i've always done them is first 90 degrees 30 degrees bank full power and pitch up. At the 90 degree point bank rolls out pitch stays even...

So advice needed. Got a bill in the mail for "unreturned equipment" totaling a bit over 400 bucks. We had moved in May and canceled our internet service returned everything all was good. Got a bill in the mail today saying we owe 400+ bucks. They are saying they are missing a cable box. We...

    Inoperative equipment

So I understand if its not required under far91, the TC, required equipment, or its on a MEL you can label it inop, deactivate it, and make a log of it and be good to go. (More or less) Had a flight with a CFI and the heading bug wouldn't work when doing the run up. Obviously not required and...

Ammount of time to get private license

So it might be an Old Wives Tale but I see a lot of people throwing out 60-70 hour average and i'm sort of curious why that is. It seems if you solo by 20 hours (which I think most/many do) you should be done right around 40. Not trying to throw shade at anyone who did hit the 70 hour mark...

The robots have a ways to go before they take over.

Well I've been entertained watching this stream off and on today. Two chatbots "vlad" and "estragon" having a conversation. https://www.twitch.tv/seebotschat Its like watching a soap opera so much drama. Bots falling in love, hating each other, and accusing each other of being robots.

    Cessna 172 underwing hardpoints

So probably a long shot if anyone knows anything about this, but the 172m I flew recently had 2 underwing hardpoints anybody know what they would be used for? From what I can tell the aircraft was owned by the university of florida starting in 1998 and nothing before that. The current owner...
