    NA Pepper Spray NA

Completely non-aviation subject, but this is a pretty smart group. Suggestions on best pepper spray to carry for self protection. Not let’s not get political. Just asking for a product recommendation.

ForeFlight / Stratus losing connection. GPS position marker lag

I have experienced several instances lately with ForeFlight (iPad mini 5) losing connection with my Stratus 3 during flight. Also several instances of GPS position marker not keeping up with position of aircraft. Lagging behind. Anyone else experience this? I have a tech-support request into...

    Whale in an Airplane

physics/aerodynamics question: If a whale is in a tank of water and the tank of water is in the cabin of a airplane, does the CG of the airplane change when the whale swims from the front to the back of the tank?

    Young students

I am a new CFI, about four months. Not a new person about 58. Just took on a new student who is 16. A young man. Smart, energetic, enthusiastic, wants to be a professional pilot. Any “special handling” suggestions as I lead him through to his certificates? I want to keep him motivated, and...

    For Sale Lightspeed Twenty 3G

Our flying club has a pair of old lightspeed Twenty 3G headsets that we are trying to sell. They are in decent shape with the case and they work. Any idea what a fair price would be?

    Airplanes in airport terminals

It seems to me that in major, international terminals there are fewer and fewer airplanes on display. Sometimes you can walk through the entire terminal and get to your gate and never even see an airplane. Why don’t more airports put airplanes on display in terminals? No wonder no one is...

    Battery for Scout ADSB

Just got a scout ADSB receiver. Could somebody recommend a relatively small battery to be paired with it? I’ve got a larger battery that I use for the iPad, but don’t want to have to use that big battery for the Scout. Kind of does away with the advantage of the little tiny scout footprint.

    Cessna/Textron commitment to small GA.

I get the feeling that Cessna / Textron would love to be out of the small piston GA market. They recently canceled the diesel 172 a year after it was certified, they are cutting back on Cessna pilot/training centers, they have priced the 172 and other small piston GA airplanes at unrealistic...

    Flying from right seat

I am pursuing my CFI. Probably about a month from check ride. Does anyone know of any reason why I could not practice flying (either by myself, or with another person in the left seat) while I fly from the right seat? I know there are no FARs that preclude this, as long as I can reach all...

    Stalls, stalls, stalls, stalls

Beginning right seat flight training towards my CFI. We have discovered a weakness in my flying: I am not nearly comfortable enough doing stalls. So guess what we are doing next flight? Stalls, stalls, stalls. Power off, power on, accelerated, crossed control, elevator trim, secondary. Oh...

    ForeFlight Aero Charts

ForeFlight users: How many of you are regularly using the new digitally rendered Aero Charts? I am trying to force myself to use them more often, but seem to always go back to the good old sectionals. Supposedly, these Aero Charts were a reimagining of how we got chart related data...

Learning to fly from the right seat

I'm about to start training for my CFI. Any suggestions on how to quickly learn to fly from the right seat? I've heard that some people adapt almost immediately, others struggle. I want to be the former.

    Sennheiser headset.

I recently found an old aviation headset in a drawer at my airport. Sennheiser HMEC-300 - P/N 300-231-415. It seems to be complete and in good condition, except I do not have the power supply. I believe this power supply uses a XLR3 microphone connector. How can I get a power supply for this...

    Columbia Airport (O22) Yosemite area

Flew from my home airport to Columbia Airport yesterday for my long commercial XC. Fabulous flight, nice airport. Camping on the airport - you can taxi your airplane to the campground. I have a new bucket list item, and a reason to not get rid of all that old backpacking equipment I haven't...

One page summary of ATC privatization

Has anyone found, or created, an easy to read, one page summary of the ATC privatization fight? I realize this is a complicated issue, but I'd like to post something on a bulletin board at our flying club that clearly summarizes what we general aviation pilots should be concerned about...

Suggestions for a San Diego Tour

I will be picking up some European visitors at Carlsbad/Palomar (KCRQ) tomorrow morning for an airplane ride. Any suggestions for a scenic tour? Although I don't mind operating in the Class B, I'd rather not in this case, because the Bravo causes so much chatter and attention on my part...

ForeFlight Data Driven Maps - worth $50?

Right now I have FF Pro, but not Plus - which means I don't get the new "data driven maps", among other things. Getting the data driven maps means I have to go to the Plus version, which is another $50 per year. For those of you who have the new maps, (and I know this is a subjective thing)...
