New Aviation Weather Center web page

Wow. Not many comments about this major change. I guess few people use it. Interesting.

New Aviation Weather Center web page

HEMS tool is gone. They say "The HEMS tool has been integrated into the interactive Graphical Forecasts for Aviation". Not the same! Not nearly as useful. Anybody have another weather site that I can put up on an unused monitor and leave up all day for quick local area weather checks?

    It's an appliance trifecta

RESIST the fancy settings, WIFI connectivity, and other bells whistles. After the newness wears off you will rarely, if ever use them. Go for basic functionality.

    CA airplane taxes

Isn’t there a way to reduce the tax burden if you display your aircraft on Airport display days a few days a year?

Video of emergency landing, lucky pilot walks away Upland, CA 6.24.2020

How about you withhold comments until you know what was going on? Pilot did a great job considering what he faced. Crankshaft broke, prop came off airplane about 3 miles from the airport, oil covered windshield. He could barely see, he knew he was about to hit a gravel berm, chose to dig a...

    Piper cherokee 140 fair price??

Disagree. Not magic, but there is a reason for the 6 pack configuration.

    Piper cherokee 140 fair price??

Wow. Hard to believe that’s the same airplane. Looks like the only instrument that carried over from old to new is the mag compass.

    Crash at CCB (Upland, CA)

Yep. I’ve never experienced it, but I bet the airplane handles COMPLETELY different without the prop. No way to simulate for practice either.

    Crash at CCB (Upland, CA)

I was listening to CTAF when it happened. Experimentinal lost the propeller over the dam about 3 miles north of the airport. Oil covered the windshield, pilot called mayday - did the best he could, considering. Pilot ok with some scratches.

    Defund police helicopters.

LA might “only” have 19, but then you add in the helicopters for the other cities in the area (Pasadena, Ontario, orange county, Long Beach, etc. etc.) plus the sheriff helicopters and that adds up to a lot more.

    NA Pepper Spray NA

Completely non-aviation subject, but this is a pretty smart group. Suggestions on best pepper spray to carry for self protection. Not let’s not get political. Just asking for a product recommendation.

Los Angeles visit RIR, BUR pireps

Flabob is a little hard to find from the air. Familiarize yourself with the terrain using satellite images and be spot on with your navigation. But it is worth it. Neat little airport

    Facebook is down!

Yes, you are missing something. Facebook is a lot of fun, and great source of decent information (although you do need to sort through it, just like POA). It does tend to suck you in, and can use a lot of time, but that’s where personal restraint and being an adult comes in. It has added a...

    Foreflight is now Boeing

This is true, as long as the new owner lets them do what they have been doing and continue to pursue the vision. There have been successes and failures when giant companies took over small ones. I guess we will see which one this is.

    Whale in an Airplane

Disclaimer - I actually do not know the answer to this problem. I heard the problem presented on a podcast without the answer given. Here's the way I think about it: The weight of the whale becomes part of the total weight of the water. The mass of the whale does displace water but since...

    Whale in an Airplane

physics/aerodynamics question: If a whale is in a tank of water and the tank of water is in the cabin of a airplane, does the CG of the airplane change when the whale swims from the front to the back of the tank?
