Stress Related Anxiety with C3 MC

Over the last few days, I could tell that my blood pressure was slowly rising and last night after checking at home, It was reading 172/100 which is starting to move into see a doctor immediately territory. I went to the ER, got checked out with an EKG and a series of BP readings over 2 hours...

    Practice.

I just went up the other day for pattern work with some 10kt+ winds. The previous flight my landing after a sight seeing hop was pathetic and I knew I needed to practice. It's amazing how it takes 4-5 landings to clean up you pattern legs and target speeds, not to mention fine tuning your flare...

    Cessna 172R, 172S - "Mixture Idle Check"

I fly both models and never do a mixture idle check.

    QT Halo Headset

Mine doesn't look like that, but I'm sure if you insist, he'll replace it.

    San Diego Bay Tour video.

How was the air? I was supposed to go up on Saturday morning but cancelled because of the turbulence SIGMETs and LLWS reports.

Passed written.. Probably screwed myself though

You should be fine. DPEs are getting pressure these days from the FAA to grill people regardless of what score they get. Prepare as if you got a 70 and you'll be just fine.

Need a 10 knot crosswind to practice..

I had a scary moment during a solo flight where I executed a touch and go, and as I put up the flaps and rotated back into the air, the wind just pushed me over almost into the grass to the side of the runway. Scary stuff. I never ever forgot to keep my wind correction in on the go after that.

Headset - Time to make an order

+1 for QT Halo. I tried the Bose and the Lightspeeds. Halo is so much more easy to transport and has great noise reduction. Can't beat the trial as well.

Discussing GA Risk with Family / Friends

I always remind people that the media makes a huge deal about aircraft accidents compared to fatal car crashes which happen far more regularly. Also, I always remind them that it's usually the pilot and not the aircraft that causes the accident. If a pilot is really proficient in emergency...

    Thanks for that.

C152 down at Smyrna Beach, FL

I didn't see a thread and I'm very curious to see what the good folks of POA have to say. Yesterday around 9PM local, a C152 crashed near Smyrna Beach, FL. The only fatality was the single pilot aboard. Here is an edited ATC recording of the Japanese female pilot that was at the controls...

Parent of Teen wanting to Fly

Although it might be a little bit of a drive, I can personally vouch for Pacific States Aviation at Concord's Buchanan Field. Amazing team of instructors and a great fleet of well-maintained aircraft. I can't recommend them highly enough and could get you in touch with my own CFI that I used if...

Parent of Teen wanting to Fly

I took my first flight at age 15, I believe. I'm thankful that my parents were supportive of my interest in aviation and allowed me to explore this. Flying once a week is great and is a parallel to taking a weekly music lesson. A word of warning: Some flight schools might humor your son's...

    Lancair down at VNY

How could that have happened? I'd imagine there would have been plenty of damage on the wings if the plane stalled onto the ground.

    Lancair down at VNY

Seems the Lancair (N7ZL) took off southbound from VNY and went down just off the southwest corner of the field. Departed behind a falcon 900 jet and was given a wake turbulence advisory. Here is the audio from tower (takeoff clearance at 11')...

    Miami Beach Tour tips?

I'm getting a checkout at Tamiami tomorrow and will be flying with some friends in the area. Thinking of just staying local and doing the beach tour. Any pilots here with experience doing the tour and any idea of how crowded it gets or serious concerns? Thanks in advance!

    North up or Track up?

I find tracking up to be extremely disorienting. I always keep ForeFlight on North up so I can properly read the chart and orient myself. Aircraft GPS on Track up is fine.

I Understand Aviate, Navigate, Communicate but...

If you're really focused on flying the plane, talking on the radio is really not a priority. Not to mention if you're in a two pilot cockpit trying to troubleshoot an issue in a huge jet while in IMC in moderate to severe turbulence. Makes sense to me.
