    Mixture rich on approach?

GFY, interweb tough guy! Who made you the arbiter of what threads are about? I'm sure students across America are hanging on your every word but not mine. Cessna 182s of many varieties are notorious for fouling plugs and leaning for taxi and takeoff prevents that. I've lost a plug in...

    Mixture rich on approach?

It's a TR182 and try 31" and 20+ gph. In any case leaning for peak EGT or peak RPM is not "a bad thing" Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Mixture rich on approach?

What he said. I never ever use full rich not even at sea level.

    Cessna 177 RG specs?

No, the Cirrus has a dropped center stack/console. Not the same at all. Like this...

    Cessna 177 RG specs?

I looked closely at the C177RG 5 years ago. Great airplane for all the reasons discussed. But the thing that seemed dumb to me was that some models (I don't recall now) had only 3/4 of a panel. Never made sense to me why they designed it that way. As far as flying an RG goes... No one has RG...

    this one passed the test

Thanks, Nate. I have a new job at a small PE-backed startup company that keeps me permanently swamped during the day. The family takes care of the rest! :-D

Just carry a few TravelJohns and discard discretely at destination. They work for (OK intimately close) ladies too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Cleaning the smashed bugs off

I use water and time. I keep a spray bottle in the hangar and spritz the bug-covered parts with water. I go do other tasks. After a while I spritz again if necessary. Then I wipe off the bugs and apply a car wax. The car wax seems to reduce the amount of wiping required the next time.

Low cost airlines = bad idea

So the thesis here is what? Is it that since the flight is cheap it makes people behave badly? Wal-Mart could raise its prices and make poor people find decency and manners?

Actual IFR usage for GA flying

I file and fly IFR on every cross country, which is >90% of my flying. It works great. You can file any route you want and chances are you'll end up on a direct routing IF you are properly equipped (and I am going to assume so for this discussion). The route listed in a clearance is not...

I need a video to prove the earth spins to a flat earther.

Someone who chooses to believe the earth is flat is practicing religion. You won't convince him because he is driven by emotion, not evidence. Laugh and move on.

Which way do you turn for your run-up?

Depends who else is already in the run-up area and how they're oriented. When I'm the only one around I've done it both ways depending on my mood. I tend to follow what I've seen other pilots doing at a particular field, but not always. I don't always swing the nose into wind either if wind...

    End of night VFR coming?

    I was almost there! Thanks

    End of night VFR coming?

The instrument rating covers so vastly much more than is necessary for night VFR that requiring it for such would just be massive and stupid and expensive overkill. Plus we all (those of us with a PPL) for training, including night XC, at night. Then there is the night currency that was so...

    Staying awake while flying

As a pilot I have plenty of things I can do to stay awake. Fly that airplane, check weather, do various pilot calculations, play "could i make it there" (assuming engine-out) with the airports I pass, look for off-airport landing spots, micromanage the mixture setting, prep or brief my arrival...

    Saudia Airlines False Distress Call

This is what my instructor told me also. Way back in 1995 when transponders were made of wood. :-D

Transient Tie downs, or lack there of.

I've never been charged for parking for anything less than an overnight stay, and often not even then if I'm taking on x gallons of fuel. But I fly exclusively West of the Mississippi so maybe it's different elsewhere.

    Sully: liked it.

I liked it. I didn't find the portrayal of the NTSB as adversarial as being too bad. But then again, I went in knowing to discount that bit. Unfortunately, however, it is really unfair to the NTSB who overall are very thorough and driven by the facts. They're human too but still they do a...

    Potty option for longer flights?

Travel Johns 100%, especially with kids. You can't always just land - and with kids they don't always empty themselves completely and have to go again 20 min later. Anyway, why do I want urine sloshing around in a container. If it even has a small chance of leaking, eventually one will. The...
