    Lancair in McKinney 11/11/23

I think this was an LX7, which the manufacturer says can stop in 800 feet. That’s awful short, but would be doable in half the 3000 feet of pavement. According to the AOPA article, that means new wings and new vertical stab/rudder...

    Lancair in McKinney 11/11/23

I’ve seen the video of the approach and landing. It was producing thrust all the way. He floated past the 1/2 sign on that runway before touching down, with a single porpoise in the first half of the runway. He locked up the tires almost immediately and still went through the ditch and the...

    Lancair in McKinney 11/11/23

This wasn’t a Lancair. It is based on a Lancair but has different wings and different stabs. The manufacturer advertises much lower approach and landing speeds, along with only 1000 feet landing distance (which I assume requires functional beta on the prop).

    Lancair in McKinney 11/11/23

Wasn’t TKI’s runway closed yesterday? Maybe he didn’t realize until he got there and then decided on T31 at the last minute?

    Is BasicMed doable without Ishihara?

I have never done an Ishihara test for basic med (those plates are expensive). Been to a couple different doctors for it and they just wanted to know if I could see the green and red. If you don’t think you should fly at night after getting an approved basic med exam, then don’t. If you can’t...

3rd class to 1st class question

As long as she’s the queen of someone’s double wide trailer with the polyester curtains and a redwood deck?

    Ozempic/Wegovy

Anyone know pilots using these? Am I reading the Basic Med requirements correctly that using one of these weight loss drugs wouldn’t fall under the special issuance requirement? Or is there some underlying required diagnosis to get the prescription that would require a new SI under Basic Med? I...

OSH - AIRCRAFT DOWN SOUTH OF ULTRALIGHT AREA

No, I’m talking about the guy that drove his truck through a gate because everyone let him once he told them who daddy was. I’m talking about the yellow shirt EAA security guys who said it’s ok for him to do whatever he wants because of who his dad is. I’m talking about the EAA maintenance...

OSH - AIRCRAFT DOWN SOUTH OF ULTRALIGHT AREA

EAA needs to get control over that area and the other people who think they are too good for any rules. The more I think about it, the more I can’t help but think that it’s a culture problem that is already leaking out into other areas. The way the son of the EAA maintenance supervisor acted...

Video of C-152 Stall/Spin @ Quebec City (CYQB)

It also looks like the camera man is staring across a commercial gate marking on the pavement. Something that tells you what type of airplane and where to stop the nose wheel. He is likely in a secure area and can’t do anything to help.

Video of C-152 Stall/Spin @ Quebec City (CYQB)

The 150s I learned in had a strange contraption that hooked on the back of the yoke and extended all the way to the rudder pedals to lock the flight controls. No way you’re going to forget that because you can’t get in the airplane.

OSH - AIRCRAFT DOWN SOUTH OF ULTRALIGHT AREA

I talked to at least two people immediately after the incident that watched the whole thing and made similar statements.

Four Dead In OSH Accidents: T-6 In Lake, Helicopter-Gyrocopter Midair

Maybe not technically aerobatic, but I watched them all week. At times they would get to buzzing around the field real quick and some of the things they do over there is very close to wingovers and steep turns in that tiny area with others around.

Four Dead In OSH Accidents: T-6 In Lake, Helicopter-Gyrocopter Midair

Except that’s right over the new vintage aircraft parking area on the west side of the road. That new parking area is not depicted. That’s where the incident happened. I was in that area when it happened. Rotor blades departed and flew over my head with the helicopter landing a few yards from...

Four Dead In OSH Accidents: T-6 In Lake, Helicopter-Gyrocopter Midair

The ULs are the only ones EAA allows to fly over campers. If you watch them, you’ll slowly start to get more and more terrified until you, like me yesterday an hour before the incident, tell someone that the UL field traffic is going to result in an accident. We’re lucky the gated area had...

From South to OSH - good fuel stop midway (HUF) and fartheset north (MSN)?

Late to the party here, but I can’t say enough good things about the FBO at MSN. I stop there every year. Fuel is reasonable, people are nice, and they have reasonable after hours/weekend/emergency maintenance rates. If you can grab a hotel near the Capitol building, that is a nice area with...
