    Cherokee 180 Update

Loved my 1965 Cherokee 180C when I had it. Nice plane to train in and use for some cross countries. FYI the 180's are about 11"-12" shorter than the archers that replaced them, but you have a greater useful load with the hershey bar wings.

Has anyone installed the Garmin GPS 175 yet?

No, you can use a switch, but the existing CDI with glide-slope was not compatible with my Garmin 400, so I removed the CDI without the Glide-slope and installed another that was compatible.

    Cherokee 140 LED Beacon/Strobe?

Yes, I had a bit of a problem too, but with older planes like mine the grounds become an issue. I found the ground for my rotating beacon was not very good. I ran a double ground for the new one and eliminated the problem.

BasicMed and mild red/green color blindness

The color blindness test is to check to see if you can see Red, Yellow, Green, and White lights. In case of no radios the tower can signal you will a light gun. They should still be in your books on what the codes are, but Green is go, Red is stop. I am color blind and failed the test myself...

Just finished 1st lesson and having 2nd thoughts

When learning to fly it should not be too much of an overload on you. If so the instructor needs to back off to allow you to understand what you are doing before moving on. Each person learns at a different pace. When I was learning my instructor moved to the next step after I concord the...

    Flying to Branson, MO

What about KPLK? It is right downtown is my understanding and they have rental cars. KBBG is out a bit. As far as fun we were there years ago and went to some of the comedy clubs. There is also an Scenic Outlook tower to go to.

I graduated from Stone Mtn. High School many years ago. Worked at the Mtn. as a kid and nicked up to the top many times. There use to be an airport on the east side Stone Mtn. Airport that is gone now when they had the Olimpics. Flew in a PT19 owned by Benny Britt the last I have seen the...

Talk me in or out of buying a Cherokee 235 (described below)

The 430 WAAS will be around for a while. If it is not was more $ to get it upgraded or buy new. I had to go the cheaper route on my upgrades and bought used. My package is a bit different, but still WAAS. Mind you I had to wheel and deal pretty hard to get what I got over a 1 1/2 years. But...

Talk me in or out of buying a Cherokee 235 (described below)

Sounds a bit much to me. With that engines TBO of 2000, you looking at a $50K overhaul from what I have read. Needs work in the interior and could use some avionics upgrades. I have a Commander 112 with new leather interior, carpet, upgraded avionics/radios/ ADSB in and out. Huge cabin...
