    First contest

Flew my first aerobatic contest Llano this weekend. For those that put on the contest, thanks for a great weekend! I learned a ton and met some great people. For those of you that haven't done this yet, I encourage you to try it out. Go find an IAC chapter, learn a little about aerobatic...

    BBQ question for TX pilots

Im looking to load up the J3 and fly a friend to Lexington to eat at Snow's. For those of you that have done it, any recommendations on logistics? Doesn't look like there's a close public airport and I'm not certain about ground transportation. Any advice would be appreciated.

    First real aerobatic lesson

So, I was finally able to do it! It took a while to get the schedules to work, but I had my first aerobatic lesson on Sunday in the Great Lakes. Loops, rolls (mostly 2-points) and spins (both directions). What a blast! Lesson learned for the day: Tighten the harness to where it's almost...

    Recommendations in South Louisiana

I'm flying to the Florida panhandle next week from Addison. I'd love to find a stop in S Louisiana to stretch, refuel and grab a little breakfast. Any recommendations? Baton Rouge? New Orleans? Hoping for something on-airport.

    Acro instruction

I'm planning to start some basic aerobatic instruction. I'm generally comfortable with the group that I'd be using (Big Q Aviation at KJWY). They're good people, good pilots and take care of their aircraft. I did my tailwheel endorsement there and currently fly with them as an occasional tow...

    Safety of Aerobatics?

I'm a ~260 hr commercial pilot and have been flying a rental Citabria quite a bit. I absolutely love it. I'm also going to start the process for Great Lakes checkout soon at the same place. I'm really drawn to aerobatics. It looks like an absolute blast. And frankly, I'm kind of...

    Plane considerations

So, I'm a ~260-hour CSEL. I fly primarily out of 2 airports...KJWY for fun in tailwheels and KADS for XCs. For the XCs, I usually rent an Arrow or Bonanza through a local club. It's KADS that's giving me concern. Flying a single engine out of there means you have almost 0 options for a...

    Just passed the commercial checkride

After the instrument rating, it seems like the logical thing. I don't plan to fly professionally, but I like have the options to tow gliders or give rides on the weekends. I will say this, it was the most fun I've had on a checkride. It's just more enjoyable flying with your eyes outside...

    Any Vermont guys out there

I'm going to up there for a week on vacation near Lake Champlain. A guy can only lay around in hammock so long. Do you guys have any recommendations on aviation stuff to do/see? I'd love to rent a Cub or Citabria for a day and go sightseeing, but those types of operations are getting...

    Blue Angels Practice

I'm in the Pensacola area for the week with the family. Thought I'd take the kids over to see the Blues practice. For those of you that have done it, any advice? Is it kind of a walk up type deal, or do we need to plan to get there way early?

    Floribama plane rental

I'm meeting my family in Gulf Shores in a few weeks. Beaches are great, but I get bored quickly. Does anyone have a recommendation on a place where I could rent a cub or Citabria and fly around the area a bit? I'm taking the club Bonanza, but a tailwheel would be a lot more fun for low and...

    Mid-air avoidance

Had something happen on Friday and wondering what (if anything) I should have done differently. I was flying a J3. I had a handheld radio, but for some reason, I couldn't get the transmit to work through the headset. Still, I could hear the CTAF and is was good for SA. Winds were out of...

Approach procedure that crosses the U.S. border

Apologies for not posting the plate. But please take a look at the RNAV 19 at KFSO (non-towered) in northern Vermont. The procedure actually takes you across the Canada/US border. Are there issues with that? Would I need to do anything than other than be in contact with ATC? I'm assuming...

    Twin down near KDTO

Don't know how to post the link, but you can find it quickly with a Google search. Anyone have any insight? It was certainly IMC last night. Pictures don't show an obvious fire.

    Question on Aeronautical Experience logging

I'm putting my experience information into IACRA for my instrument checkride and have a question about solo hours. Should I only log as solo the hours spent as the sole occupant during my primary training? After certification, should I have stopped counting that time as solo? In other...

    Timers

Question for you instrument-rated types...what kind of timer do you use? I'm about halfway through my instrument training and have decided I'd like a timer in the cockpit. The Arrow that I'm flying has a clock with a second hand, but I think I'd prefer a timer. But I'd like to know what...

Another "Which plane for me?" Thread

I'm a relatively new pilot. I have about 175 hours and am in the middle if instrument training. While most of my training hours have been in a Cherokee and Arrow, I've had the most fun in a Citabria and Super D earning a tailwheel endorsement and spin training, respectively. My 80% mission...

Seeking advice on Houston area airports

I'm based in Addison, TX and have a Friday afternoon meeting in downtown Houston in a few weeks. For those that are familiar with the area, where would you recommend landing a PA-28R? Hobby seems unecessarily large. I see a couple of strips west of town and the Sugarland airport seems...

    Got my tailwheel endorsement today!

Had a great time at Big Q Aviation in Midlothian, TX. Carol Walker is fantastic. I encourage anyone interested that type of flying to go check 'me out. After I earned the endorsement, we stopped, took the door off the Citabria and did some open air flying off the grass strip! It was fantastic!
