Plane crash lands after practicing engine failure, Lake Elsinore, CA 1/13/18

I actually took it all the way down to the ground on my PPL checkride. DPE pulled the power, I did all my stuff and headed to the grass strip. It was actually a good exercise and confidence builder for me.

Twin Ownership - Year 1 The ups and downs

Ha! Tony, I laughed out loud at that. Okay, the Duke is definitely off the list. I'll start digging into the 414's and 414a's. Acquisition cost looks expensive, but I guess you get what you pay for most of the time. Tell me about the geared engines on the 421's. Sounds like one more thing...

Twin Ownership - Year 1 The ups and downs

I noticed that the Duke was tossed out quickly and most have seem to agree. What driving that? I don't know much about them.

Twin Ownership - Year 1 The ups and downs

I'd love a turbine-powered option (single or twin), but that's out of my price range...maybe down the road. Didn't realize that the 58P was a retrofit. Makes sense now. I see why those More knowledgeable than me are steering toward the Cessna.

Twin Ownership - Year 1 The ups and downs

This is really helpful. Thanks! I've got an relationship with an instructor here that does a lot of twin training. Sounds like I need to get that process moving. I also start digging into aircraft specifics. I haven't heard anyone mention a 58P. Thoughts?

Twin Ownership - Year 1 The ups and downs

This is a really interesting thread. The idea of a twin has crept into my head over the last few months. I live in Texas and keep a small place in Steamboat. I'd love a plane that will safely taken my family of 5 (kids age 13,11 & 10) from one place to the other. It would make long weekends...

    First contest

Ha! This was the "Hill Country Hammerfest" in Llano. Whiled you wouldn't have been impressed with my performance, there were some amazing pilots there! Makes me realize how much I have to learn. This is some seriously fun flying. Go checkout the contest calendar at www.IAC.org. Mike, there...

No video. Maybe I'll setup the GoPro during a practice session for some online critique.

    First contest

Flew Primary since it was my first contest. It went well once I found the box. Man, that thing is tiny! Definitely add one more sucker to the fold. Now to practice the Sportsman maneuvers.

    First contest

Flew my first aerobatic contest Llano this weekend. For those that put on the contest, thanks for a great weekend! I learned a ton and met some great people. For those of you that haven't done this yet, I encourage you to try it out. Go find an IAC chapter, learn a little about aerobatic...

    Flying with the door open

Had it happen once in a Bonanza. The only bad part is that I had a first time flyer (at least in a GA plane) with me. Once he realized he wasn't going to die, it wasn't bad. He kept commenting about how I kept my cool. He didn't realize that I knew what he didn't...it's not a big deal. Guess...

    Paragliding on Maui today!

Does it have an AOA indicator? I heard all aircraft in Maui do.

    My Unusual Attitude/Aerobatic Training Experience...

How were the vertical rolls in the Great Lakes? What was your entry speed and were you able to make a full roll and still get over the top?

    Angel Flight typical airplane

I had to cancel one on Friday for similar reasons. It was a BE-33. From what I've seen, most of the pilots are in piston singles.

Would it be possible to fly inside a city?

What if he lessened the G's and allowed the plane to descend? How much altitude would he have to give up to get the accelerated stall speed within a reasonable range?

    BBQ question for TX pilots

I may call the jump field. It's close and I might be able to swing a pickup. But I like James331 approach!

    BBQ question for TX pilots

Im looking to load up the J3 and fly a friend to Lexington to eat at Snow's. For those of you that have done it, any recommendations on logistics? Doesn't look like there's a close public airport and I'm not certain about ground transportation. Any advice would be appreciated.
