Slowing increasing MAP on turbocharged engine

My wastegate is actuated by oil from the wastegate controller. I can certainly see how oil temp could affect that.

Slowing increasing MAP on turbocharged engine

Makes sense but wouldn't a hot day make the oil less viscous and allow the wastegate to function normally? I would expect to see a sluggish wastegate on cold days when oil temp is low.

Slowing increasing MAP on turbocharged engine

I have a TSIO-550 and I've noticed a couple of peculiar things. On takeoff my MAP is 34.5" (max is 35.5") but this slowly increases to 35.5" as I climb into the teens. This seems to happen on warmer days. I've only been flying behind this engine for a year but it did this last summer as well...

    0A7 Hendersonville, NC

I emailed the airport manager and he answered some questions for me. I'm going to put this here in case anyone else in the future needs it. "Asheville will vector you as low as 4400' msl so about 2400 agl. If the ceilings are at least 1500, it is not unusual to shoot the approach to KAVL and...

    0A7 Hendersonville, NC

Thanks for the info. That was my concern. The runway length isn't too much of a concern to me but 40 ft wide and some possibly wacky winds could make it interesting. Throw on top of that some marginal weather and you start to see a chain of events unfolding.

    0A7 Hendersonville, NC

Thanks for the replies. I might just contact Asheville approach or the airport manager. I am instrument rated and looked at flying into Asheville but fuel there is stupid expensive (currently $6.98 / gal) and they have some pretty high overnight fees. My plan is to file 07A and if I can't get...

    0A7 Hendersonville, NC

Does anyone have experience flying in and out of 0A7 in Hendersonville, NC? My in-laws just moved to the area and I am planning my first trip out there for Thanksgiving. The AFD indicates to use caution when winds get over 10 knots. Also curious as to what procedures people have used getting...

ForeFlight version 8 has been released.

As a pro subscriber with SV add on I'm a little ticked with this update. I figured it would be a nice upgrade to keep Firelight out in front of the competition but now I don't have access to it unless I spend more money. I feel the same way about this as paying more for the log book and I'm...

PPL Training and Deer Strike - Read your Insurance Policy

I would just have a lawyer send them a letter before anything else. I have no experience with aviation insurance companies but if they work anything like medical insurance companies they may be just kicking out a denial hoping you'll just forget about it and they'll be off the hook. In the...

5 dead in Bakersfield crash of PA32

Sure, we may never know. We can suspect some unusual things but lets apply Occam's Razor here. We know that he was actively searching for clear air and had turned northbound in attempt to maintain VMC around the time he was being issued his clearance. The FAA did a study in 1993 that...

5 dead in Bakersfield crash of PA32

I don't think that it's speculation when we examine the facts. IMC, lack of an IFR rating, and a rapid decent from 17,500 shortly after accepting an IFR clearance along with a mayday call. There's not a lot of mysteries left with this one. Pretty classic VFR into IMC. I think we can stop...

Trying to navigate (VFR) the north Florida morass...

I make pretty much this exact flight several times a year. In fact I'll be doing it tomorrow. If you haven't seen it check out seeandavoid.org. I use it to see what MOAs are hot or pending. I always fly IFR so I'd rather know earlier than later if I need to route around them. I usually talk to...

Florida Fatal crash after issue with AP ?

This definitely makes me think a medical issue or extreme stress was the issue of his inability. This guy was no newbie.

Florida Fatal crash after issue with AP ?

Now that they released the pilot's name I'm a little disturbed as to what I found in the FAA pilot database. I was hoping to find a newly minted PPL and make me feel reassured that it wasn't someone with a lot of experience. Last rating was added in 2010. Has single and multi as well as...

    Recommendations around Orlando

Flew out of KISM today. Left the plane for 4 days at the Kissimmee Jet center. Very friendly staff, cheap gas, and GA friendly. No issues at all and I'll be back.

Coolest thing you saw at Oshkosh?

Or by watching Jimmy Franklin's routine 15 years ago. My favorite moment was standing maybe 75 yards from the departure end of 18 when the F-100 kicked it into afterburner before releasing the brakes.

Correct way to give a PIREP?

What I expect to see is the ability to fill out the form in flight and then when you land submit it electronically. That prevents the need for in flight connectivity. In fact I believe Lockheed-Martin already allows something like this with some software packages.

    Flying Cirrus Over Open Water

I think I'm going to start flying from Texas to Florida across the gulf. I plan on having some life vests, raft, and a PLB. I think we have to weigh the risks and benefits every flight and the same goes for this. I also feel like calm water is like one big open field to land on. At least better...

5 killed in Bloomington crash (Cessna 414)

The Bloomington ILS 20 and ALS are currently NOTAMed out of service. This was the approach they were on. Is this SOP when an accident occurs while a plane was on that approach? Wonder if there was a malfunction of the ILS.
