    PA-28 rental in Atlantic Canada?

I wasn't familiar, but I'll check it out, thanks!

    PA-28 rental in Atlantic Canada?

This is a bit of an odd question and I'm not quite sure where to ask it, but my Google-fu has come up dry, so I'm turning to the collective wisdom of POA for help. I'm a US pilot with an FLVC for C-registered aircraft. I went to university at Acadia in Nova Scotia and a lot of my friends still...

Flew down to Santa Cruz for a work meeting a couple days ago - it was the first time since passing the private checkride in May that I’ve actually had a proper mission (as opposed to just cruising around Northern California for fun). On the way down to Santa Cruz, following the Coastal...

Private Finish Up Training in the Bay Area

I'm currently a student at Oakland Flyers and I've flown with a number of CFIs there - they've all been great! I drive over the bridge from the Inner Sunset and it is a solid 45 minute trip (plus traffic), but it's worth it in my estimation. As another poster mentioned, there's an elevated train...

Did some cross country prep yesterday - All the rain we've been getting lately must be making a difference, because I've never seen the hills around the Bay Area look so green!

Flew a Bay Tour with my CFI over the weekend - gorgeous day for flying, smooth as glass and oddly not too crowded either.

    What's your preflight routine?

I stick pretty much to the published checklist for the PA-28 that I fly most regularly, although I change the order of operations a bit for efficiency's sake. I always check the fuel and oil first, for a couple of reasons: If low on oil, you can add it at the beginning of preflight and then...

New Melones Lake in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Taken en route from Columbia (O22) back to Oakland this afternoon during my first cross-country flight w/ my CFI. It's crazy how dry the reservoirs are getting here in CA - some of the big blue blotches on my sectional were barely visible from the...

CFIs in San Francisco Bay Area

I'm working on my PPL at Oakland Flyers and I'm sure one of the instructors would be happy to go with you. I've flown with several of them and they're all great.

    First solo

Congratulations! And yeah, trying to be a pilot and a cinematographer at the same time is no mean feat.

    Well done, congratulations!!

    First Solo (w/ Video)

Thanks all for the encouragement - I'm going out again in a couple of hours to make sure it wasn't just a fluke ;)

    First Solo (w/ Video)

After many months of study and around 50 hours of flight time, I managed to get it around the pattern a couple of times last night without damaging plane or pilot  I was worried I'd find it nerve-wracking, but in fact it was quite relaxing - I performed the traditional three...

Best source for studying and passing the written?

Agreed, I used the King Schools course in combination with the ASA test prep book over the course of a couple of weeks and passed the test no problem.

    Critique my comms?

Thanks all for the great feedback - I'll incorporate that into my comms procedure going forward. By way of update, I did my pre-solo phase check today and apparently passed, so the rest of you might want to avoid flying around the Bay Area for the next few weeks while I terrorize the local...

    Critique my comms?

The previous call cleared us for VFR navigation, i.e. "you can go where you want horizontally" but we were still bound by the vertical limit imposed by clearance delivery ("at or below 2,000"), so when issued "altitude your discretion outside of Bravo" we were at that point cleared up to 3,000...

    Critique my comms?

Yes, my CFI cautioned me against it immediately thereafter as well, suggesting "level at X" instead. I think I must've picked it up listening to various ATC streams, but I can see that it's redundant. Obviously, if you're talking to them, you're with them.

    Critique my comms?

Student pilot here; I've been at it for just over fifty hours or so, and I've got my pre-solo phase check tomorrow. In addition to poring over copious pages of notes on various regulations and manoeuver configurations, I thought it would be useful to review my comms performance, as I've been...
