    Flew an SR 22 today

Bounced landings don't count as multiple touch and goes. As far as comparing the SR22 to an SUV, I think it's more like a refined sports car. Same with the Cessna 400/Ttx

    CA Bay Area A&P recommendations

Not if it ends up taking multiple hours. I’m right now considering an A&P in Santa Rosa at $95/hr and an avionics guy named Kevin also at Santa Rosa at $105/hr. The avionics guy sounds really good and caring and he believes that it could be a really quick fix. I don’t have any reviews about the...

    CA Bay Area A&P recommendations

Just called Susanville. They are $95/hr and can’t see me until April 11th. That, combined with the fact that there is no easy way to get home, rules them out.

Thanks. I’ll call now. Only issue is that if it takes more than a day, don’t know how I will get back to the bay.

    CA Bay Area A&P recommendations

OK obviously no one knows a good, cheap inexpensive and efficient mechanic anywhere in California. So let's open it up to neighboring states as well. Surely there is at least one person in all of Oregon, California, Arizona and Nevada who can recommend a single mechanic?

    CA Bay Area A&P recommendations

I am having an issue with a push to talk button and likely a broken vacuum pump in a Mooney M20J. These seem like simple problems and I don't want to pay the LASAR/Top Gun shop rates for an MSC which are $110-120/hour. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good, cheap, efficient A&P in the...

When you hear hooves, don't go looking for zebras. There aren't a million and one explanations for a 90 degree bank and uncontrolled descent into terrain. Of the ones that exist, a stall is the most probable and the one that accounts for the greatest number of such accidents. I don't think...

Busting minimums down to 0? And how would that explain the witness accounts about wings shaking from side to side and "dropping from the sky"? Granted, witness accounts are notoriously unreliable, but if they're true shaking wings is indicative of a stall.

Foreflight Question about linking iPad to Garmin 530

I can see it being incredibly useful with a GNS 430/530 since that doesn't have airway support. The GTN 650/750 series does, however, making inputting routes much, much easier. Still, for $2K, I can program it in myself. The truth is that bluetooth support really should have been built-in to...

In-Flight Loss of No. 3 Cylinder; Need overhaul recs

Hey, I never disagreed with anyone. I find all of you guys super helpful when it comes to the mechanical stuff, which is way over my head. My goal is to be as knowledgeable as many of you. (Although, it does seem that opinions are like a**holes, everybody has one :-D).

Foreflight Question about linking iPad to Garmin 530

You think it's worth the extra $1K just to have that connectivity? The problem is that as a backup AHIS, it kind of fails. If you lose electric in your plane, you're not going to have the backup AHIS or interconnectivity working on your iPad. Whereas if you get a stratus or GDL 39, both of which...

In-Flight Loss of No. 3 Cylinder; Need overhaul recs

I modified post with new info just received: "Edit: Spoke with Ben at Corona Engines (who is very, very helpful). He says the log entry doesn't indicate that a bottom overhaul was done, just a repair. A bottom overhaul involves replacing/overhauling the camshaft, which it doesn't look was...

In-Flight Loss of No. 3 Cylinder; Need overhaul recs

Correct, A3B6D has the dual mags but the difference in cost at Corona Engines, for example, is like $4K or more. Not sure that's worth the difference.

In-Flight Loss of No. 3 Cylinder; Need overhaul recs

Bottom was done 430 hours ago. The top was done 1000 hours ago. I posted the bottom entry earlier, what do you think? Doesn't look like a full overhaul. "Disassemble engine & inspect for prop strike. Magnaflux crankshaft & all steel parts. Zyglo case. Check for hidden damage. Counter weights...

Which feed are you listening to? The KCAK feed? Edit: Sounds like they are on the 1930Z feed for KCAK, at about 13:55 in: "200 the speed then 4000, Zipline 1526." Heavy filipino accent. 16:00: "Up to [sic] 3000, 170 on the speed, and 360, Zipline 1526." 16:57: "280 intercept the localizer...

Sounds like stall? What's the stall speed of a dirty H25? (According to wiki, a Bae 125 has a stall speed of 83 kts with flaps down). FlightAware is showing 127 kts over the ground at the last return, although airspeed was decaying. Still, I'd think that'd be safely above the stall speed with...

In-Flight Loss of No. 3 Cylinder; Need overhaul recs

Yes, I was definitely expecting to get a couple hundred more hours out of the engine, although when I bought the plane I got a pretty good deal because of the high engine time SMOH. I figured any extra time I got beyond 2000 hours was a bonus that I really didn't pay for. Let me give you an...

In-Flight Loss of No. 3 Cylinder; Need overhaul recs

Apparently I was wrong. I don't have the log books with me (they're in the plane), but my backup copy shows that the bottom consisted of "Disassemble engine & inspect for prop strike. Magnaflux crankshaft & all steel parts. Zyglo case. Check for hidden damage. Counter weights worn. Replace rod...
