    Whisper X350 aircraft

The website compares the Whisper x350 against lots of comparable aircraft, including the RV-7 and RV-14. The Whisper takes the lead in the comparison: price, build time, lead time, speed, range, safety, BRS, etc. They've been around for a few years, strange they are not more well known. There...

Unbelievable Offduty Delta Mechanic notices GA Maintenance Issue from the Ground

A man walks into a bar and asks for some red port. The bartender says "I'm sorry sir, we have no RED PORT LEFT". Heard that decades ago, now that's the only way I remember it.

    What happened to Skysensor TSO?

Looks like the skySensor is now TSO approved. Has anyone installed one with this approval?

    Man up or not?

Since you're in the cloudy PNW, and your goal is to fly your family on vacation, I'd prioritize the IR ticket before taking on the burden of ownership. Before I purchased my 182 RG, I scrutinized every aspect of my budget, as a result, there were no major financial surprises. What I failed to...

I've had it with Type Certificated aircraft...

Thanks, Ron. Great article. If I recall correctly, you had another article which shows a correlation between wing position and fatal accident rate. One conclusion to draw from this is the structure above the pilot may be beneficial in a crash. I wonder if slow impact speed may have been more of...

I've had it with Type Certificated aircraft...

I don’t think crashworthiness is a big factor in many experimental designs. I’d love to build one due to the awesome performance and cost savings, but I see things like fuel tanks in front of, or behind the occupants, bubble canopies that leave little options if you land inverted, frail...

    Supply chain- Avidyne edition

Imagine that, the Berkeley guy pompously dismisses the pro-American comment as unintellectual and jumps to communist China’s defense.

    Supply chain- Avidyne edition

Take an even broader view. I'm sure the Americans who lost these jobs to the communists decades ago didn't enjoy it.

    Do I Need a Tug for a 182RG?

When I got my R182 “RG” I was parked on the ramp and didn’t need a tug. Once I got a hangar, it became too difficult for me to push uphill into the hangar, so I found a used tug which makes it much easier. Without the tug it took 100% of my effort to get it in the hangar.

Leaded gas and the EPA...here it comes

Ah ha!! I get it now. He worked at Lycoming. No wonder why he got ****y when I questioned why Continental/Lycoming engineers cannot do what Rotax can. Honest question on my part. I didn't know I was offending a worshiped POA guy and his simpleton followers. Regardless, he cannot make a...

Leaded gas and the EPA...here it comes

I've read what you have to say on the topic and you're clearly no expert, and cannot make a reasonable defense of your position.

Leaded gas and the EPA...here it comes

Ted, you clearly jump to erroneous conclusions about what I do or don't understand. I'm perfectly aware of the technical/regulatory hurdles of using automotive fuel in aircraft applications: ethanol effect on seals, vapor pressure (especially at altitude), anti detonate properties, stabilizers...

Leaded gas and the EPA...here it comes

It didn't take Nostradamus to see this coming. The government has banned/restricted/taxed more for less. That's why it's disappointing Lycoming/Continental don't offer designs that support automotive fuel. I'm not talking the 'mogas' STCs which prohibit ethanol, but normal automotive fuel from...

    Paint problems

I've used Rustoleum gloss white with fairly good results. I also had custom spray paint mixed by Martin Auto Body here in Southern California with very good results. I brought in a panel from my airplane that had three different colors on it, and they matched it well. I got a few cans of each...

Sortable (or not) chart of GA aircraft characteristics (fuel burn, MPH)

I had the same question a few years ago before I bought my Skylane, so I made a spreadsheet with Excel. It was a fun little exercise. Speed was an important one, so I calculated the time required for a common flight important to my mission (CCB to GCN), and then calculated the delta time (time...

    Question about Experimental

How is the build community at Cable airport? I know there is an EAA chapter there. I'm kicking around the idea of building, and may move to Cable from my hangar in Chino. Just wondering if that's a smart move.

    Trade for CH 601 XL-B??

I’m kinda in the same boat. I own a Skylane RG that cruises at 156 KTAS, but kicking around the idea of experimental so I can save money and do my own annuals. Plus, I’ve never had a passenger in the back seat, and only once in the front. However, some of the cruise speeds offered by some home...

    Trade for CH 601 XL-B??

Sonex seems to have a good lineup, but I'm not a fan of the fuel tank located right above your legs. I know the Ercoupe had a similar location. I wonder what the accident stats show for post-crash fires. I do like the Rans S-21. Fairly low price. Different engine choices. Looks like an easy...

Is there a High Wing Tricycle Home Built

Hi Ron, Are the BD-4 numbers high enough to have meaningful accident statistics? I know high wings are generally pretty good since they have structure above and below the occupants, but in this case, that stout structure (the 6 inch diameter wing spar) is right at the forehead. Also, the high...

Is there a High Wing Tricycle Home Built

The Bede designed BD-4 seems to check a lot of boxes. I wonder why it’s not more popular. Maybe someone with direct experience can chime in. From information I gathered online, here are the pros and cons: Pros: Long history (since 1968) Inexpensive: $30k for airframe kit (no engine or...
