For Sale For Sale: Garmin GTX-330

This is a Garmin GTX-330 that was recently pulled from my plane as part of an upgrade. It is not an ES model, but is ready for the ES upgrade which would make it 100% ADS-B compliant. It does include TIS-A which shows traffic on a MFD and makes aural traffic call-outs. I have owned it since new...

    For Sale SOLD: Garmin GNS-430W

This 430W was removed from my Bonanza recently as part of an upgrade. I have owned the GPS since new, and it has been in a plane that is always hangared. It was serviced by Garmin several years ago and received a new screen, complete tune, updated firmware and test. Everything works like new...

    IFR below OROCA

I'd ask for VFR on top. That has worked for me in the past.

    It was scary today

This has probably been mentioned in the thread (I only read the first page)... You do not need functional radios at all to get your family safely on the ground. Put 7600 in the transponder and go land. Don't just circle as weather gets even worse. Just go land!!

Motorcycle accident fatality statistics for 2008...

I ride and I fly... Though statistics can be spun any number of ways.. the death rate for exposure in small airplanes and motorcycles is roughly the same... (I have studied both quite a bit). That said, I feel way safer flying. Most people die while flying due to pilot error of some type...

    Why I love my plane - # 37

It's a neat place. You land and taxi on the damp sand, staying away from the dry stuff. After landing, you have to push the plane back as the tide comes in, and toward the water when the tide goes out.

    Why I love my plane - # 37

My Bonanza can easily take me to visit my clients landing at the major airports in style. It can also take me to some really neat places on a whim for fun. There isn't anything airport like about the Copalis airport on the Washington coast. It is an official state airport (which keeps insurance...

    Arrival question

It sounds like the instructions were incomplete. I had the opportunity to fly the exact same approach today, and was given what I expected. As I was close to AUBRN I got a vector to intercept the localizer. Makes much more sense that way!

    Wheels up time

Jason, thanks for the good info. I was departing PSC for BFI in a Bonanza. It turned out to be nice VMC all the way too! (though I think it may had just burned off at the destination)

    Arrival question

Wow, lots of responses to my question! I was very simply "cleared for the Boeing Field ILS 31L approach", while a few miles from AUBRN. I still don't see what I am technically supposed to do at that point. I wasn't given a vector, and I wasn't told to intercept the localizer. Sure, I knew...

    Arrival question

I didn't get any vectors. I simply got a "cleared for the approach". It seems to me I should have been on a published transition..?

    Wheels up time

I figured that,.. but what does it mean to me other han expect a possible delay and hold?

    Wheels up time

I have heard the phrases "wheels up time" and "flow-control" used before, but haven't paid too much attention since I assumed they wouldn't apply to me. While calling for my clearance today I was told there was flow-control in effect at my destination and asked what my wheels up time would be...

    Arrival question

I fly IFR quite a bit, but every once in a while I get a question that stumps me. I was flying from PSC to BFI today and was given an arrival procedure in my clearance that looked like this: PSC V204 YKM V4 CHINS CHINS6 Charts: CHINS6: http://204.108.4.16/d-tpp/0903/00582CHINS.PDF ILS31L ...
