    Android EFB ?

I'd love to stay Android, but it's difficult to ignore the advantages of Apple. I love my Galaxy S4. When it comes to apps for aviation *and* music recording/composition/practice Apple reins supreme. I need an all-in-one box, or as close as I can get. I get it all in a laptop format, but...

    iPad Questions

Cool discussion. I'm over 50, so my non-reading glasses days are numbered. The mini would be perfect now, but might not be in a couple years. I'll probably need as much storage as I can get. Trying for an all-in-one travel device. It would be nice to leave the laptop at home while...

    iPad Questions

thanks Randy, teethdoc. This is the kind of feedback I really need. I'm very hopeful that 2014 will bring me back to the skies. I always liked the idea of a EFB, nice to see things have progressed quite quickly.

    iPad Questions

I don't have a tablet, but I've been looking at a lot of them. iPad seems to be the favored solution for aviation and if you add magazines, quantity & quality of apps and ease of use. If one wants on-board GPS, they have to get the cellphone chip'd version. I'm looking to make this tablet my...

    Arlington, VA optionerations?

You can take the current education from FAASafety.gov course ALC-55. IFR simplifies everything when it comes to the SFRA. Get your fingerprints, head to Dulles and get vetted for FRZ. :-)

random questions i have for pilots

I've trained my intuition with Aviate, Navigate, Communicate. If I get the feeling something is not right, then I check all critical instruments, re-run the last checklist and check-in with ATC. To be honest, I don't have much of an intuition. When I was flying actively, I did drill a...

    New IPad

I don't have a tablet, but I've been looking at a lot of them. iPad seems to be the forgone conclusion if you add magazines, musician apps and ease of use. If one wants on-board GPS, they have to get the cellphone chip'd version. Questions: 1) Anyone using BadElf (and the like) instead...

AOPA Magazine on Tablets & e-Readers

The AOPA's android support is lacking. I either need to be assimilated into iOS or go back to paper. iOS is just so spendy and inflexible.

    PPL to IFR

I was given the advice to wait. The CFI-I at the school had a minimum of XXX, I don't remember the number, hours of PIC. I used the time to really really really make flying the plane automatic. Practiced holding headings and altitudes as perfectly as conditions will allow. My goal was to fly...

    Instrument training books

Capt. Ron, here's a link to John Eckalbar's books. The follow-on book to IFR: A Structured Approach is Instrument Flying Update. I have both.

    Instrument training books

I probably have all the books mentioned above. Including the Jeppesen Instrument/Commercial textbook. I ended up using these two as my main study books, in addition to FAA sources online: Instrument Pilot's Handbook, Rod Machado IFR: A Structured Approach, John C. Eckalbar I love Rod's...

AOPA Magazine on Tablets & e-Readers

Thanks everyone. I've read good things about the iPad version. I have a bit of an aversion to Apple. They've become like Microsoft in some ways. However, because of the "closed" hardware environment support and quality of apps, especially for aviation, seem to be higher on iOS than on...

AOPA Magazine on Tablets & e-Readers

Greetings ! I switched from the print version to the online version with the hope of not stacking up piles of paper. The stack is gone, but I still find myself way behind on my reading. I have tried to read AOPA on my laptop... in a word, eh! Anyone have a better experience via tablets or...

    Hip Replacement

It's funny, as I add new activities I find new muscles that haven't been used. It's been 6 months for me (197 days to be exact). Yesterday I was up and down the ladder. Today, I'm sore. I sit at a desk for a living, was only away from work about 10 days after surgery. That first step after...

    Hip Replacement

Very cool information. I've let my medical lapse mainly due to funding. In the interim, I've had my right hip replaced this past January. Very happy with results, I have better range of motion with my new hip than ever. I really appreciate everyone's input and comments on the topic.
