Garmin Pilot for Android -- Tech Support, Tips, Tricks

I'm at version 6.4.8 and it still allows that. In the "Station Model" WX mode, click on the icon next to the "Station Model" button: That brings up the box where you can select the individual items for display. I hope that hasn't been removed in a newer version!

Garmin Pilot for Android -- Tech Support, Tips, Tricks

Here are a couple of screenshots on my Android tablet with AHRS from the GTN 345. This first one is (almost) straight and level, though it was pretty bumpy today. You can see a couple of towers to the right, and an airport (8T8) behind the ground speed ribbon. The dark blue smudge on the ground...

    Cost of Garmin 345 installed?

Pippen-York in Fredericksburg, Texas, did our GTX 345 (without the internal GPS) last December for $5,500 installed. We had some other work on the same quote, though; I don't know if that affected the cost.

Considering Grumman Tiger - Grass Strip

The mechanic who does our Tiger's annual is located at Sunrise Beach (2KL) which is a well-maintained ~2600' grass strip. He owns a Cheetah himself, and there are several other Grumman owners based at that field. I enjoy flying in and out of there; the only problem is dodging the deer, who...

    Air-to-Air Dos Grummans

Wow; I replied to your post on the other thread before I saw this one! Thank you so much for the photos; it was a great experience, and we're looking forward to seeing more! It was a great day for a photo flight. My only disappointment was that the foliage wasn't greener, but that's to be...

Closed Central Texas Pilots - Free Photos

Scott and I sure enjoyed meeting you today, Jack. The flight was great, and your 140 is awesome! I enjoyed seeing more of your work, too. I hope your hands have thawed out by now.

Proper URL for getting the GAIRS report for your ADS-B rebate

I just learned something that I thought I'd pass on to save a headache for anyone else who might make the same mistake. We just had a GTX 345 installed in our Grumman, and as soon as I picked it up from the shop yesterday I took it for the required validation flight. I ran through the required...

Garmin Pilot for Android -- Tech Support, Tips, Tricks

I agree with RotorDude, although I believe the previous cycle's files are kept until they expire. So if you load a new cycle before the old cycle expires, you'll have the files for both cycles on the system for a period of time. Having said that, I have occasionally noticed some old files that...

Garmin Pilot for Android -- Tech Support, Tips, Tricks

I think Garmin uses the AOPA airport database, so I went to the AOPA airport directory entry for KCZT (https://www.aopa.org/airports/KCZT#businesses) and sure enough, the Blue Nest is listed there. There is a link to post comments about the airport, but I don't see any way to submit...

Garmin Pilot for Android -- Tech Support, Tips, Tricks

Not that I know of, or at least I've never found them if they are. They do have the TAC charts as you noted, and merge them nicely with the sectionals, but it doesn't look like the flyway charts are included.

Garmin Pilot for Android -- Tech Support, Tips, Tricks

I am also using a Nexus 7, and I'm quite happy with the performance and the size. My only complaint is that it's hard to read in direct sunlight. In fact, even a reflection of the sun off of a light-colored shirt can make it hard to read. Lee

Garmin Pilot for Android -- Tech Support, Tips, Tricks

I haven't noticed that on my Nexus 7 with the non-3D version of the GDL 39, although I think the longest leg I've flown with it is about 2.5 hours. Sometimes Garmin Pilot is a bit sluggish when I first start it, but it's fine after a minute or so, and I haven't seen it slow down as the flight...

    San Antonio Airport/FBO recommendations wanted

Stinson, Castroville, and Boerne Stage are all good choices. Stinson is a towered airport, and has the museum and a restaurant on field (though I haven't been to the current restaurant so I can't comment on it), and is convenient to downtown San Antonio if you plan to spend much time there. The...

Garmin Pilot for Android -- Tech Support, Tips, Tricks

On the Flight Planning page, if the departure or destination airports are below the weather minimums for the type of flight (VFR/IFR), GP displays a yellow triangle next to the airport name. I've attached a screenshot of an example (I had to look around for some airports with weather, as it's...

Garmin Pilot for Android -- Tech Support, Tips, Tricks

I flew with version 5.1 for about 3 hours today while doing practice approaches. I mostly used it for displaying approach plates, but it worked fine. I do like the improvements they've been making in version 5+ with the airport information pages. I find the new layout much easier to use. The...

Walt Disney World has a runway - who knew?

That's fascinating; I had no idea. I just checked, and Paul Freeman has an entry for it on his Abandoned & Little-Known Airfields site. According to it, there was a short period when Shawnee Airlines actually had commercial service to the field.

Garmin Pilot for Android -- Tech Support, Tips, Tricks

Wow; the change to the taxiway labeling in SafeTaxi is a huge improvement. Previously I found it very difficult to identify taxiways when zoomed in, severely limiting the usefulness of SafeTaxi at unfamiliar airports. Now the taxiways are clearly labeled in multiple locations, and the spacing...

Garmin Pilot for Android -- Tech Support, Tips, Tricks

Yes, on the Airport Info page, press the Menu button and look for the Supplemental A/FD and General A/FD entries. It took me a few minutes to remember where I had seen that. I wish Garmin would update the Garmin Pilot user's guide to the current software version.

Garmin Pilot for Android -- Tech Support, Tips, Tricks

It may be that Garmin is using Google's staged rollout feature. I'm running Android 5.1.1 on both my Nexus 5 and Nexus 7, and I haven't seen the update yet. Lee

Garmin Pilot for Android -- Tech Support, Tips, Tricks

Glad that worked for you, too. It fixed the problem on both my Nexus 7 and my emergency backup Nexus 5. And with the weather we've been having in Texas lately, there are plenty of opportunities to test the radar! Not that I'm complaining, mind you; we need all the rain we can get around San...
