    IFR "pop-up" courtesy of ForeFlight

No. We left KORL about 10 minutes earlier and we were headed down to KMLB for some approaches and then back to KORL. We stayed clear of KMCO and the Bravo.

    What is IFR training?

I have a little over 130 TT and I got my PP when I had 43 hours. I have all my requirements done for the IR and have passed the written, but I haven't flown in about 6 weeks due to being really busy with work and a lack of funds at the moment as i'm moving (only a few miles away...but still...

    IFR "pop-up" courtesy of ForeFlight

I've had to do that. Filed a quick flight plan on Foreflight, waited about 5 minutes and called up Orlando Approach (we were about 15nm SE of KMCO) and they were NOT happy about it. Cloud cover was getting lower and lower so we had no choice. Almost felt like we were a nuisance.

Flying West out of Denver in a single

I had a chance to go up to LXV from APA last winter when the weather was perfect. Not a cloud in the sky, very little wind, and temperatures at APA around 30 degrees. We went up in a Comanche 250. Took off SW to Buena Vista, crossed the ridge probably about 20-25 miles north of Pikes Peak and...

Best way to control unruly passengers?

Followed by puke all over the cockpit window and the instruments. My rule...if you're above the legal driving alcohol limit you ain't getting on my plane.

    Landing Denver... KAPA?

+1 on what everyone said. I got my PPL at KAPA and spent lots of time at Tac Air. Just remember the non-standard radio procedures when talking to ground and tower on the way out.

Very cool METARs in Foreflight right now...

I saw this morning as well and thought...wtf??? So it's just a foreflight thing then right?

    Icy Runways

If she called you maybe there was someone else wanting to take the plane, you just never know. If possible you could have listened to liveatc.net (if your airport is on there) and see what pilots were saying about the braking action. If it's a smaller airport you could call the tower directly...

UK PPL with FAA IFR rating got confused in the clouds and pulled the chute

I'm not condemning him for his age but you can't ignore the fact that the brain of a 76 year old isn't as fast at processing information as one of a 30 year old. It's not my opinion. It's a fact. http://www.kines.umich.edu/content/brain-connections-break-down-we-age...

UK PPL with FAA IFR rating got confused in the clouds and pulled the chute

The pilot was almost 80 years old as well. Nothing against the older guys but realistically your brain starts slowing down well before that. I'm thinking there's a reason a mandatory retirement age of 65 exists for Part 121 pilots.

    ASA IFR Test Pret App

I remember a couple of questions about vibrations in icing conditions when you lower the flaps, and a question about icing on the trailing edges of the wings. I was getting 90s on my ASA test prep app and ended up with an 82.

Which Pilot Advocacy Group Will Embrace UAS Pilots?

I'm not sure I follow your attack on a labor group which also includes pilots. Perhaps you should take a civics class and learn to appreciate the improvements labor unions have made to the working class...including pilots and aircraft mechanics.

    Electronic tachs

Unless i'm in a hurry...I generally set the RPM at the bottom of the green arc. Last time I went on a long x-country I went up to 4,500 set the RPM to about 2,100rpm...leaned correctly and ended up getting about 5.5gph on a C172 with the 160hp engine. I also got 8.1 hobbs and ended with 6.4...

http://www.leesburgflorida.gov/index.aspx?page=1218 $250 per month here for a Condo Hangar which is quite a bit nicer than a T-hangar...that's where I got the $200 number from. But, the OPs numbers are still out of whack. Instead of spending $200,000 on a DA40, spend $80,000 on a decent...

Ok well good luck with that then… As others have said, it sounds like you want to own a plane and want others to pay for it. If you can find some suckers out there that are good with it then more power to ya!

How do you come up with $15,000 per year in fixed costs? Hangar rental shouldn't be more than $200 a month, plus $100 a month in insurance that comes out to $3,600 a year tops. The rest of the stuff should just be built into the flying time. Get a total of 5 people including you...so...

You can rent a C172 for much less than $165 a month and insurance is much less than $800 a year. I have multi-engine renters insurance and that's $400 a year and I pay about $80 per hour for an IFR rated C172P.

Maybe get 4-5 people total... Charge $30 per hour dry and $75 per month. I agree that $300-$400 per month is too much.

I think a C182 or an Arrow would be more efficient than a DA40...since your purchase price for a DA40 is going to be quite higher than a C182 or Arrow.
