Would you pay more for better instruction?

Oh, I think that one could feed the family on $50 -60 an hour if the costs were controlled, and some other steps taken. But the TRUE distinction, which has been nibbled around but not truly attacked, is in your last sentence. The 300-hr wonders right out of the Hoo-Haa Academy may be well versed...

    alpha, bravo, charlie, etc.....

I recall reading some time ago that the current (international) phonetic alphabet was developed so that the pronunciations would be recognizable even to & from native speakers who don't have some of the same sounds as English. Maybe no soft "g" as in George? Maybe "jello" sounds like "hello"...

    Electronic Logbook Software

. One advantage to the off-site program is that it is platform-independant. I've been (quietly and passively) looking for logbook software, but all the ones listed here seem to use MicroSoft, and I don't do Windows ! . All my e-mail resides on someone's server, and that's a lot more personal...

Pilots License article in New York Times...

Sounds like the reporter did due diligence - far better than many news accounts of flight training. It could have gone into greter detail; but who knows what space restrictions the editor was dealing with.

FB Ghery, And you took some nice photos, too. That last one looks like a cover from QST a few years back. Sounds like a once-in-a-lifetime sort of visit. 73 de N3AMF Jim

    Bent Airplane *Long*

Tony, Let me add to the list of "Attaboys" for a job well done: didn't get rattled, devised a plan and executed it. When the "perversity of the universe" gremlins are huntin' ya, they'll find a way to ding you somehow, and it sounds like you minimized the damage. And, NEXT TIME you can...

    Commercial question

Getting back to the original question, I think it has been established that the Commercial candidate must complete: a) a SOLO x-c trip of more than 300 nm with three landings, b) a night DUAL x-c training flight in VFR of more than 100 nm, and c) a day DUAL x-c training flight in VFR of more...

    Fuel gauges in FAR?

For years, I have heard various versions of the limited reliability of fuel gauges in GA aircraft; and often the discussion mentions something to the effect that they are only required to work when they show "empty". Can anyone direct me to a valid section of 14CFR (any Part) which describes...
