    Dayton Airshow 2016

Some family and I will be attending the Dayton Airshow for the first time this year (hopefully it won't be super hot) and I'm planning on flying in for the show Saturday (weather depending) and was wondering if anyone here had flown in before and would be willing to share their experiences. The...

    MIT Mid Air Collision Paper

I want to share a paper done by MIT on mid air collisions. I was suprised that a large percentage of the collisions involved aircraft on the same heading... pretty interesting stuff.

So the Honda Jet should be getting the green light from the FAA soon. What are everyone's thoughts on this new light jet? Will be interesting to see if it can compete against the Citations and Phenom in that size range...

    X-32 vs F35

With the issues the F35 program has been having and the recent, mostly negative, review of it's abilities, does anyone think that picking the F35 over the X32 was a mistake (aside from the people at Boeing)? Of course, the X32 could have had issues too if it had been put into production but the...

    152--->172

Tomorrow will be my first transition/checkout flight in the 172 and since I've never flown one before I was wondering what some of differences in flying characteristics are compared to a 152? Things I'm expecting: More right rudder needed during takeoff/climb out Heavier control feel...

    What is this?

I was at Urbana this morning (super busy) and saw this airplane on the ramp (see pic, sorry it's small). What is it? And what's the reasoning behind the collapsed nose gear look? Enlighten me!

    Urbana Grimes Pirep

Hey everyone, I'm planning my first $100 hamburger run to Urbana tomorrow. I've never actually landed, taxied in, and parked at an airport before (besides my home field) and was wondering what to expect in general and/or at Urbana specifically if anyone has experience there. Any info is much...

    Passed Checkride

Today was checkride day. I got to the airport around 7:15 for an hour solo flight before the exam and after that I met the examiner at 9:30 for the test. 1.9 on the tach later I was a licensed pilot! The exam wasn't anything I didn't expect and it was great to learn some new tips and techniques...

Going into a college flight program with private licence

At college aviation program such as UND, OSU, Purdue, WMU... what happens to incoming students who already have a private certificate? FAA Accredited Program When Not In College?

Ok so here's the deal. I'm on the home stretch of my PPL and should be wrapping it up within the next month. I want to start my IR rating soon after. The school I'm with is an accredited program where the minimum ATP hours is 1250 (I think) vs 1500 for non-accredited programs. As I understand in...

    Radio problems above certain RPM

So on todays lesson we were having a strange problem with the radios in the plane. Transmissions at or below 2400 RPM were crystal clear but at 2500 (nearly redline) transmissions could not be understood because the static was so bad. This made upwind and crosswind callouts at the uncontrolled...

    First Solo

So it finally happened tonight! Winds were pretty much right down the runway between 7 and 12 knots and after a few trips around the pattern my instructor got out and out and off I went. In short it was an amazing experience and I even got a compliment from the tower after my last landing!
