    Experimental Bonanza

I can think of lots of other toys that cost more money and wouldn't be half the fun. After my 1st airplane being so underpowered for where I flew from… You can't have too much horsepower under the cowing

Have you ever landed at the wrong airport?

Turlock was the shortest runway I ever took off. As I said, I was just learning to fly the Bonanza (“learning” being the operative word, because my dad was no teacher/instructor) Bear in mind, I Was 21 years old and had 50 hours total time then, so I deferred to my dad when he overruled my...

Have you ever landed at the wrong airport?

almost landed at Beale Air Force Base back in the early 80s It was my 2nd flight flying the Bonanza, and getting no help from my dad who was sound asleep in the right seat I just picked my way through the foothills around clouds and had the Turlock airport on my nose or so i thought until my...

Aft Body Strakes on twin Cessnas??

My 340 had intercooler's, so temperatures were never an issue, but it was happiest between 15,000–180. And I could keep the cabin below 10,000 at cruise settings where I got the best “miles/gallon” Any higher took higher manifold pressures and increased fuel flow without picking up much...

Aft Body Strakes on twin Cessnas??

There you go… Just make it easier to write that check. Actually… if you put it on your American Express, you get rewards points and air miles…:goofy:

Aft Body Strakes on twin Cessnas??

Yeah but… You can “fudge” a little on that 9-10 knots TAS by saying that the increased climb rate gets you to altitude at higher speeds faster…:goofy: And… That $1500 per knot is only on the 1st flight. After that… the speed increase is free. (My CPA as always rolled his eyes at my...

    Best V tail Bonanza model?

My 1960 M35 with the 250 hp would do that, but only after I installed the sloped windshield. On a side note… To get rid of the V–tail waggle… install a set of vortex generators on it. It will stiffen up the ride like you can't imagine, and climb like a homesick angel. It will cost you 3–5...

    Best V tail Bonanza model?

My M–35 had some weight and balance issues at destination if you weren't careful She definitely got tail heavy when my kids got older/bigger when landing with almost empty tanks that being said… I agree with the S model being the best

    What Are You Reading?

Killing Jesus by Bill O'Reilly So far it has been an easy read like his other books are.

You only have 3 months to live

Similar situation I was told I had a terminal illness that was 2 to 5 years life expectancy, but after I outlived it, went to the Mayo Clinic where I was told it was something else that “could” kill me… rather than “will” kill me. Naturally, because of the diagnosis I was immediately self...

Did you come from an aviation family or are you a 1st generation pilot/enthusiast?

Re: Did you come from an aviation family or are you a 1st generation pilot/enthusiast Funny story My dad did all right on the flight, though I have to admit the throw over yoke does create a little anxiety if you are the “check pilot”. As much anxiety as I gave him when he taught me how...

    Thoughts on 1962 Beech Debonair

You get used to it quickly… especially if you don't try to compare it to a Cessna

Did you come from an aviation family or are you a 1st generation pilot/enthusiast?

Re: Did you come from an aviation family or are you a 1st generation pilot/enthusiast I never understood the lack of passion. There was no question I was going to fly my entire childhood. Got my private when I was 21 years old, which was the 1st opportunity I had They all loved to go...

Did you come from an aviation family or are you a 1st generation pilot/enthusiast?

Re: Did you come from an aviation family or are you a 1st generation pilot/enthusiast All 3 kids like flying… natural for kids who grew up in an airplane, but none of them had it in their bellies

Did you come from an aviation family or are you a 1st generation pilot/enthusiast?

Re: Did you come from an aviation family or are you a 1st generation pilot/enthusiast The greatest compliment I ever received from my dad was the Thanksgiving morning when he asked me if I would take him up in “our” bonanza And let him fly. It had been a couple of years since he had flown...

Did you come from an aviation family or are you a 1st generation pilot/enthusiast?

Re: Did you come from an aviation family or are you a 1st generation pilot/enthusiast That reminded me that I was second-generation, but married (my previous administration) into a third-generation. My ex-wife's grandfather helped build the Spirit of St. Louis, and was a flight instructor...

Did you come from an aviation family or are you a 1st generation pilot/enthusiast?

Re: Did you come from an aviation family or are you a 1st generation pilot/enthusiast Second-generation Most of the old home movies my parents took of me as a kid, was my sitting in my father's lap “flying” the airplane. My mother hated flying, so I got to sit front seat at a very early age...

    My airplane is just average

none of my airplanes would have won a blue ribbon for aesthetics, but they would have for what they were under the Cowlings. On a scale from 1–10, I would have rated them about a 7. Except in cleanliness. They were always spot free inside and out. I spent my money on mechanics and avionics.

    Great Dismal Swamp Crash

Never knew much about bolted on tips… Do they act just as “holding” tanks that feedback into the mains, or is it the excess above what you are running goes in there like the auxiliary tanks do?

    Great Dismal Swamp Crash

 I had Ram VI's (335hp) The fuel gauges on my 340 were the most accurate I've ever seen in an airplane. I could literally pump the auxiliary tanks dry without as much as a sputter of an engine. A lot of people think the twin Cessna fuel system is too complicated. I always maintained...
