    United Airlines customer service

Time for the sequel of "United breaks guitars"?

    What is wrong with this?

I was early for a commercial flight from PSC. The TSA line was still closed - they took a lunch break. With nothing to do, I stroll over to the FAA tower, watching a GA airplane doing T/Gs through the fence. I chat with the controller who was taking a break. Just a nice Saturday. Then I go...

    Charts for Canada

Thanks for pointing out the Fltplan app. It looks pretty nifty, and certainly will do the trick for me! I am just wondering: generally, you are either the customer or the product of a company - if they give you free stuff, the second is more likely... So what is Fltplan's business model?

    Charts for Canada

I am planing a cross-border hop to Montreal, Canada - most likely simply IFR (less hassle with the flight plan). My first flight into Canada. My question is: What Canadian charts do I really need? Am I good with simply the IFR low altitude enroute chart plus approach plates? (That's what I'd...

ASEL, no fire extinguisher on board: go or no go?

Not sure about that... Many commonly used fire extinguishers are dry power. Not sure I want to try that in a closed environment. There is a reason aircraft typically have Halon extinguishers installed.

    O-200 Sudden Roughness in Flight

Had a similar thing happen to me in my student pilot days, flying solo for check ride prep. I was about to rehearse the simulated engine out drill, when the engine suddenly and violently started to shake. At the time I also just landed. Turned out to be the left magneto timing. It was firing...

    Density altitude -3000 feet.

Reminds me of some T/G's I did solo in a lightly fueled Cessna 182 with an outside air temp of 10F.... Should have had a helicopter rating for those...

How much time can elapse between required landings?

:yeahthat: In my case, I had to stop on my way back for weather on an intended one-stop flight from LA to San Francisco and back. Thanks to the weather stop, I was able to count it...

Visa requirement for CFII training and checkride

As far as I can tell the required visa for flight training is a hot potato that neither the state deportment nor the DHS wants to be responsible for... Is there a web page somewhere that could shine some light on what's actually required in practise?

Visa requirement for CFII training and checkride

A friend currently holds an FAA CFI certificate, and would like to get his double-I (instrument rating on the instructor certificate). However, he lives abroad, and currently doesn't have a visa. (The 5-year visa he did all his training with has expired). Question: can he do his CFII training...

    CFI Initial...almost made it

Bummer, but the good news is that you are done with most of it. The recheck will be a breeze. The FAA has a strange way to teach us that our flying degrades after a 12h day...

Exception for ERAU Students ATP, only 1,000 hours

:yeahthat: The whole thing strikes me as nonsense. If there is really some magical training that is better than 500h, then they should just set the limit to 1000h for everyone, and require that magical training.

Teen gets 30 months in prison for aiming laser pointer at plane

I just whish the reports of laser incidents would start mentioning what power the misused laser pointer had. You can get anything from 1mW to several Watt these days. Not saying at shining any laser at an airplane is a good idea, but the health risk for flight crews is very different - ranging...

    Underage children logging dual?

Interesting thread. I still have a few years before I will start filling out my son's logbook. But I did start ground lessons age two  On a related note: since we both are on a green card, the alien flight student rules would apply. So to stay legal I have to pay the TSA $130 or so...

    Landing at Kennewick or Pasco

I would recommend KRLD. It has a nice FBO, and you don't have to worry about the security theatre that comes with having airlines at the field, like at KPSC. The last time I was at S98, the FBO had closed, and it looked quite deserted. (But that was a while ago - somebody should correct me if...
