Central America EFB, Wx, and Charts?

Watched video, thank you. I generally use aeronautical map set Track-Up on the Garmin PFD, but pre-flight in foreflight with standard charts, (just primacy.) In flight I only use iPad to find hotels and restaurants, the exception is approach plates seem to be easier to read on ForeFlight than on...

Central America EFB, Wx, and Charts?

Not dumb at all, exactly the information I was looking for (not that I didn't enjoy the humorous responses as well.) Thank you.

Central America EFB, Wx, and Charts?

Thanks. There’s no EFB which would cover the flight?

Central America EFB, Wx, and Charts?

I’ve been asked to fly a VFR experiment aircraft from Panama to Los Angeles, CA. It’s a type of plane I have many hundreds of hours in, and I’ll load charts into the G3Xs onboard, but I’ve never used ForeFlight or Garmin Pilot outside the USA. (I prefer ForeFlight, but have experience with...

    Kauai Aircraft Owner/Flyer?

My wife and I will be in Kauai in mid-late February and I’ll be hankering to fly GA there. Any leads on owners/flyers based there would be appreciated. Thanks, Craig

    Smartwatch Pulse/Oximeter Question

Thanks Alien, sounds like AW7 can be similar to Garmin in this regard. Maybe Stewartb (above) is a smoother pilot than we or his aircraft is. Anyone have a series 8 (non-ultra) apple watch they've tried using as an oximeter in flight?

    Smartwatch Pulse/Oximeter Question

Your apple watch experience could be similar to mine with a garmin, except I stopped trying after 3 attempts. Any other pilots use apple watch 7 (or 8) to check blood ox? The AW ultra worked every time.

    Smartwatch Pulse/Oximeter Question

I have a Garmin smartwatch with oximeter function but it won’t work at altitude because of aircraft vibrations. I was surprised to see that an Apple Watch Ultra worked accurately in flight, no issue. I have an apple watch from before they included blood oxygen readings which I wear for daily use...

What Does the FAA Have Against the Word, “Student?”

I did mine with John and Martha, my plan is to use a different company for each FIRC, maybe fewer of my blind spots will be missed. You and Brad may be correct, my beef is with KingSchools, please disregard this entire thread. ~~~~~

What Does the FAA Have Against the Word, “Student?”

Just did my CFI refresher course and it’s all over the FAA material.

What Does the FAA Have Against the Word, “Student?”

A couple years ago FAA publications twisted themselves into knots trying not to use the word “student” and used the word, “learner” instead. Now it looks as if they’re using the word “customer” in CFI publications. I’m in my late 50’s and love when I get to be a student, I like to think I’m...

Approaching WHP VFR from the west

SoCal will sometimes drop you just before VNY without a handoff, I'm not the only one this has happened to. Be sure and let the controller know you want to talk to VNY on your way to WHP.

    O69 Petaluma CA - PIREPS?

Flown into both fine airfields. Petaluma had cheaper fuel and a diner on field (looks like it might be closed,) Novato is closer to SF.

My wife finally landed the plane. :)

Not exactly Rashomon, but Jason's film and your film definitely have different perspectives. His is more about the process of teaching and learning, yours is more about the emotional journey your wife is going through to achieve her goal. Have any pinch-hitter instructors ever taught flying the...

My wife finally landed the plane. :)

Eric, are you sure Jason didn't give Poppins the landing because he didn't want the credit for a hard one? Just kidding, well done, all three of you.

    tips for camping

I camped at OSH, Sun N Fun, Johnson Creek, etc. in a Light Sport with backpacking gear. An REI or Big Agnes Tent will fit in your plane and weigh about 3 lbs. Rule of Thumb: get a tent one person larger than the number of people that will actually use the tent. ie, if you're two people, get a 3...

Best way to plug into the local GA community

Depends where you are and how hard you look. At the end of my hangar row a few of the old pilots got together and built a tiki bar. One can stop by any Saturday (again, now that people are vaccinated) to hear all kinds of first-hand stories of flying from the past 70 years, some of them may even...
