    Congratulations dude!

    The Diversion

It actually works pretty well once you get used to it and can do it automatically. But I recognie it may not be the most efficient way.

    The Diversion

Yes, earlier today, as a matter of fact. To be clear, the above was designed as a method for executing a diversion ordered by a DPE who absolutely loves to send examinees through Bravo airspace. Real life would me more like a direct-to the nearest airport (at least for those of us who use the...

    The Diversion

My (new) CFI has a pretty good system she taught me. Draw a line on the chart from where you are to the new destination. Seeing the line on the chart will instantly tell you if you're crossing restricted airpace, terrain elevation, VFR waypoints etc. Then I have the following little checklist...

    Is a 100 hour required?

Why does it matter if it's a female? If the OP thinks he/she/it is incredibly good looking, then he should go for it regardless.

    Are the FAA crazy ??

It doesn't count unless you recorded it. Just kidding - congratulations! I was supposed to go this weekend, but on a TSA-induced hold for the moment...

    Proper Turbulence Response

The instructor who did my stage check before the XC solos decided to do a simulated engine out in pretty severe (in my limited experience) turbulence, with my wife in the back seat...she had no idea what was going on and was scared out of her mind. I wanted to throw him out of the plane... I...

    Solo Cross Country!

Congratulations! I agree that the first solo XC was a much bigger deal than the first solo. FWIW, my long XC was far less stressful and exhausting than the first, even though it lasted for close to 3.5 hours.

    A TOMATO FLAMES

If you fly a Cirrus you can shut it down and pull the chute.

    AFSP and Changing Instructors

Indeed, I had to do a new training event and pay the fee again. Hopefully they'll process it ASAP. It's time to get that ticket... Thanks all for your responses!

    AFSP and Changing Instructors

Thanks guys - will let you know. The new instructor is with a different school, so I think I'll have to do this as "subsequent training."

    AFSP and Changing Instructors

After having spent a couple of hours on hold with the TSA/AFSP earlier today, I decided to see if I can find the answer in the collective wisdom of this forum rather than enduring yet another day of deadful elevator music transmitted through the iPhone... My Part 61 instructor has to take time...

    Still messing up the flare

I do 65-70 kts on final with about 1,500 rpm -- after idling the engine it translates to about 60 over the numbers and 50-55 wheels down. To the OP, hang in there. I was struggling for the longest time with this, and one day it all just came together.

    cleared to land, RWY 13......

Santa Ynez (KIZA) in CA...if you overshoot the runway you'll run straight into the Chumash Casino.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

It's a pain in the a**, but fortunately only for a few rides. Once the windbag is out of the cockpit, you'll have a nice, big, empty seat to put the charts and kneeboard on when not in use (I borrowed a nifty clamp that you can strap onto the passenger side yoke and that will hold your charts...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Checkride prep! :goofy: Finally got the last solo XC done this weekend -- beautiful ride to KCNO, down to KSDM and back to KMYF...had to spend an hour doing touch n' gos at KSDM as I had to burn time off the XC clock (damn that 180hp SP is fast with only one person on board). Heading down...

    Solo student's mishap

I don't understand this - why fly if you feel unprepared? I did my short solo XC last weekend, and will do my long in the next few days weather permitting. Granted, I fly next to the Pacific Ocean so there is no chance in hell of me getting lost, but if I had any uncertainty about my ability...

    First solo cross-country

Congratulations! Doing my first solo XC tomorrow - KMYF to KHMT, probably around 55 NM or so. Beautiful ride, especially if the marine layer clears and I can do the first leg up the coast.

    Background Check to shoot photos

Interesting concept. I was just on Oahu and was shooting some pictures at KHDH from outside the fence...not at celebrities, just the airstrip, as it was featured in a couple of episodes of Season 2 of LOST (yes, three years later and I'm still a LOST-o-holic). No one chased me away, but then...

Another new guy. I mean REALLY new

:yeahthat: If you want to get it done in a reasonable period of time and for reasonable $$, fly as often as you can (and can afford). And don't worry about the hours -- you know what they call the guy who took 80 hours to solo, 200 to get his ticket, right?
