I'll have to take a 185 over a 206... But, I'm biased My '61 C185 with the IO470 sips between 11-12 gph at 23 squared and 140 kts over the ground. Almost a 1600lb useful as well. Plus it's a tail dragger. Tail draggers are manly airplanes

Personally, I would take an old straight tail 182 over one of the new ones. Or, If I were to choose a twin, it'd be pressurized and be turbo charged for flying above any and all weather.

It would be panel mounted. They actually make a pretty slick harness for the unit that allows it to run off the power of the airplane and has a quick-disconnect to allow you to take the unit with you if desired.

So, after doing a bunch of research on the advantages/disadvantages of the Aera 796, I'm convinced that it is a very good option to add into the cockpit. The only thing that I haven't found much of is actual pilot reviews of it. 1) What are your likes/complaints? 2) Subscription costs...

I just got a PS Engineering PMA7000B installed in mine about a month ago and it is exceptionally good. Highly recommended.

Just installed it on my C185 today and holy crap, the thing is pretty incredible! Very bright with an internal strobe feature built in and it's about a quarter of the weight of the original rotating beacon. Well worth it!

My vote is either a C-185 or C-206 on amphibs. Fly as low to the water as you want, plus you have the payload to haul 4 people.

I'm not an instructor, but I just took the class and the test about 2 weeks ago... On my particular test, there was about 12 out of the 60 questions that I had never seen before in the class or in the book. However, the course teaches you enough to pass... Somehow I did ;)

I wish Cessna would reintroduce the C-185.
