    Investing Funds Instead of Saving

Probably the best route is a tax exempt muni bond fund. ~4-5% dividend, tax-free (depending on your state), fairly liquid, and doesn't tend to fluctuate in value as much as stock-based funds. There's usually a ton of choices with no load from a Scottrade or similar account.

Things you can say about your plane but not your partner

Gonna have to lose some weight, you're over gross!

What is your shortest Cross country?

Did that as the last leg of my longest x-c. Hit fuel-reserve time and KDTO was $.50/gal cheaper, anyway.

What is your shortest Cross country?

My first logged flight was KGKY-KGPM followed by the even shorter (winds 180) KGPM-KGKY.

What Is Your Longest Cross Country?

    52F-KWLD 247NM 2.5hrs up 3.5hrs back (20kt headwind, was barely outpacing ground traffic on I-35) 172B

Surplus parachutes to keep dust off a plane in a hangar?

If your airplane is collecting dust, the problem is lack of use, not lack of cover.

    Doggie Rescues Need Help

I'm torn. At one end it seems an extravagant waste of avgas. On the other hand, I love puppies and it could be a great way to build time so I could qualify to do Angel Flights. Denver is a bit far to take the trip in a 172, though.

    GA aviation

As much as that sounds like a joke, I've used the golf-ball launching attachment with an AR15. There are 2 types of blanks for AR15/M16. The first is a practice blank for "live fire" drills with a blank-firing adapter. Those are the ones used to launch the golf balls. The others are designed to...

Stall Warning Horn on Base And Final

Hell no, I won't go! The FBO where I finished my PPL had a 172 with a yoke that squeaked very close to the pitch of the stall horn when it was pulled back at about the same point as rotation and beginning of the flare. Took me quite some time to fight the urge to shove it forward when it did...

    XP, 7 or 8?

If you plan to upgrade quicken or quickbooks, go with at least 7. With MS dropping support, you can expect software vendors to follow suit in short order.

What is your CFI's weather philosophy for lessons?

So long as there was room under the clouds, and the gust factors were not offensive (~8-10kts gust factor on 15-20kts is too much) or too cross-windy, (20kts, no problem, directly across the runway, no way!), we went. I tried to chicken out when there were some radar returns, and ended up...

New C4 4-Place from Flight Design

At least now there ARE new airplane designs. When I started flying in 1994, that was not the case. Complain all you want, but Diamond, Cirrus, FD, etc. really didn't exist then. The past 20 years have been a decent recovery for GA.

Can we put the myth that singles are as safe as twins to bed now?

Singles are much more dangerous. Especially singles that started the flight as a twin.

    AutoPilot Malfunction

And if you look under the transponder, there's a switch in the middle marked "Autopil". Note how the Dynon Autopilot (top right) has no illuminated blinky-blinkies. I'd bet these 2 things are connectd. ;)

You know you're a pilot when...

On a road trip you constantly think "ceilings are better than forecast, could have flown this one".

You know you're a pilot when...

And you turn to the pilot driving (wife) and say "speed up, you're only doing 60 (knots) in a 70".

    AutoPilot Malfunction

Understood. Right now, though, the A/P is the "devil I don't know". Maybe once I get serious about an IFR rating, I'll feel I need to buddy up with Otto. I don't yet feel the need to give the plane extra chances to kill me.
