    Self-locking screws reusable?

Can find all manner of guidance about the re-use of self- locking nuts, but can find little about re-using self-locking screws, specifically std-1856 1/4-20 of the type that secure the oil filter housing to a Lycoming accessory case. Since those little suckers aren't cheap, it would be nice to...

    JPI MAP connector mystery solved.

The connector used at the JPI map sensor, for those who prefer to make their own harness, is a Molex 2695 4 pin p/n 0010112044, with gold crimp sockets 0008550129. Mouser has it for .25 the sockets are .64 each. A perfectly acceptable 14lb crimp can be made with a JST hand crimper.

    Single sensor, two indicators?

I have a VDO oil pressure sensor and guage in the panel. I am planning a JPI830 install. Since the 830 will provide a redundant oil pressure display, is it acceptable to wire the output of the sensor in parallel to both the existing I dictator and the JPI? Obviously two pressure sensors is...

Anybody have an old, busted Lightspeed xlc they want to sell?

Broken headset is ok, pretty much any condition but the controller has to work. I just replaced the ear seals and head pad in mine, and it looks like the controller went tu. I get a "thunk" when I turn it on, but no ANR, and no flashing led or test light when the unit is on. Batteries are good...

    Now Comes Military Hueys?

So did my run up on the ramp and was just about to enter the taxiway to the active runway about 11:30 am when a flight of 2 Recon Hueys announce a straight in to DMW. One lands on the taxiway , the other in the grass between the taxiway and the runway, effectively blocking access to the...

For the fluid dynamicists in the crowd...

All else being equal ie, filter area, size, shape of enclosure, temp, etc, is the effect of the density of reticulated foam filter media on cfm through it linear? IOW, is a 45ppi substrate 30% more efficient than a 65ppi filter substrate in the cfm of air passing through?

    Heat soaked mag drop?

Ok, let me preface this by saying it's not really a problem, more of a curiosity. Bendix mags, Lyc O-540. Mags iranned maybe 150 hour ago. On first start of the day, after warming to the oil to 100 deg or so, mag drop both sides is a dead even 61 rpm on a digital tach. All egt rise, no...

345 no bluetooth after removing 210.

We are trying to get a bluetooth signal from a 345, and getting no GTX pairing on the ipad. We removed an Fs210 and 430W which was connected to port 3 in and out at the GTX, and turned the ports off . Both of the cables were removed. After installing an IFD 540, the RS422 out from the 345 to...

    Garmin 175 AHRS display device?

I'm installing a 175. It has BT AHRS built in, which is a great idea. I'm considering mounting a BT device on the glare shield which will be dedicated solely to displaying that data as an AI backup. I have a Navworx on board that provides weather and traffic, and an MFD, and an Android EFB , so...

    Laser welding?

I've seen a couple short demo vids. It looks like a hand held torch, similar to a conventional MIG, connected to a power unit via fiber optics. Does anyone have any experience using one? does it require gas shielding? Any special material prep? I would think it would have a smaller heat...

What to do with 998 1/8" chrome steel bearing balls.

I needed 2 for a repair. Bought 1000 of 'em on Amazon for $4. Gonna have a few left over. Not really up for making a Claymore, but willing to entertain suggestions.

    HVAC transformer odd problem

I have an A/C air handler with a 120vac whole house electrostatic air cleaner. The air handler uses a multi-pole 40va transformer for control voltage, input is 240v, as the blower fan is also 240v. Other legs on the transformer are 208v, which is capped off, and 120v which is supposed to run the...

Would you give up ILS for LPV approaches?

I am preparing to be disappointed in the Garmin 175. Looking over the IM, it looks like it will support my HSI and A/P, but won't share it with my SL30. There are a couple dedicated pins missing on the J connector to support the ACU, like OBS HOLD/Susp, term, wpt. The only two outputs are LOI...

    Box vectors and lost comm

Let's say you are on an IFR flight plan, imc enroute. You are approaching the airport, but have not yet been cleared for the approach. The controller says to expect box vectors for sequencing, and issues a vector 90 degrees from your course. You get no EFC time. A couple minutes in, you lose...

Lycoming 0-540 narrow deck left mag drive bearing

It's come up on other forums as a problem, especially with engines that have sat for some period of time, or have low use. The bearing fails with little indication, little to no metal in the oil screen or filter, and not much indication in terms of engine performance, except maybe hard starting...

    Are GPS antennas backward compatible?

I know a waas upgrade requires an upgraded antenna. But let's say you have a non-waas GPS and need to replace a tso C-144 antenna that is suspect, or need to temporarily replace it with a known good TSO C-190 antenna to troubleshoot. Would the waas antenna work with a non-waas receiver?
