Flying Video: On Top of the World

Awesome video! Really enjoyed watching it

    Part 141 Stage check

You're very right, although I will say this program although it requires less hours still costs significantly more money to complete. Additionally, the reduced R-ATP mins are nice, but at the end of the day it's worth it to have to earn those 500 extra hours if it means not having to pay back...

    Part 141 Stage check

I actually finished this last instrument course and then transferred back home to go to a part 61 school (not that I minded the part 141 program just didn't like being so far from home). Anyway, I need about 2 hours of simulated instrument for part61 mins and then I can take the checkride so it...

    30kt winds aloft

Shouldn't be a problem, 30 knots of winds isn't all that uncommon above 5,000agl. You should always be careful however especially with higher winds when it is just above the surface at about 1000agl, considering you're usually slow and configured means wind shear could have a very bad affect on...

    Part 141 Stage check

You can't, you wouldn't have your cert. You'd have to go with a CFII

    Wintiertime go/no go decisions

It's a tough call and I never make go/no go calls by just using the TAF. Take a look at a lot of the other resources on the ADDS website (aviationweather.gov), especially PIREPS a couple hours before your departure time. As Brad mentioned, it's unlikely you will get icing from snow but it's...

    Request your best speed

This happened to me just once while doing an ils approach... approach wanted 130 knots (basically max forward for the 172) to the FAF (which wasn't really possible, since we were at full power while level and waiting for GS intercept). Told approach we were pedaling as hard as we could and we'd...

    Her career is toast....

Only a true chautauquanaut can have that kind of tolerance. 40+ years of RJ service would do that to anybody lol

    Part 141 Stage check

It's part of the 141 program...this particular stage check is taken with the chief CFI or his/her designee.

    Part 141 Stage check

I don't get a cert out of it, we do the stage check for the IFR Course but we don't get all of our certs until the end of the commercial/multi engine course

    Interesting story tonight on 20/20

That would make much more sense, I didn't watch the episode I just read what was on here :D

    Part 141 Stage check

Thanks guys, I called him up, he's flying for the airlines now and unfortunately it was a stage check for the IFR course so we didn't get steep turns, short/soft fields, etc in. Oh well, still have another 6 months and hopefully I'll have my instrument ticket before then.

    Part 141 Stage check

Does anybody know whether or not a part 141 stage check counts towards a BFR? The stage check didn't get me a new rating, so my first guess was no but I wanted to double check.

    Interesting story tonight on 20/20

I never listen to a word the media has to say about aviation, do people really believe they only touch 7 buttons? Simply look at the amount and length of checklists for any modern jetliner, there's more than 7 items on those checklists.

Not your usual aviation and business question....

If you have your ratings it's always possible to do flight instruction, banner towing, ferry services, charter services, sightseeing..etc. Personally I don't think aviation is a very profitable market right now, even with a $250k investment it will be hard to pull out $75k profits in the first...

Flight school to go to the airlines

They're quite expensive, not to mention they don't offer the R-ATP at 1,000 hours.

Fate of ATP pilot landing at wrong runway. A poll

Airline safety management systems are non-punitive systems. Therefore, the pilots will for sure return to duty after retraining and suspension, IF and only if they didn't purposely land at the wrong airport, which doesn't appear to be the case at this point. I really feel bad for the pilots...

Interesting C172 Approaches into St Barth's

I noticed the wind sock in the second video, not sure why he was landing in what looked to be a considerable tailwind on a short runway with terrain all over the place. Interesting.

    Copy that order!

Would be quite useful for driving in IFR conditions, example:

Flight school to go to the airlines

Definitely a great program for ATC there, well worth the money for the benefits that it provides. As much as I enjoyed and did well with the program, I can't handle living so far away from home anymore and it doesn't make it much easier that the place is located in Grand Forks, ND lol...
