    Seminole vs Duchess

It might be hit or miss. We had 2 Seminole's at our flight school in which I used to get my commercial and instrument in. 53B was an awesome aircraft to fly in, very easy to handle and I had no complaints when ever I got in that aircraft. 99Z was a different story. Every flight was a struggle...

    Thoughts on this night flight

I wasn't comfortable flying night at all. I dreaded it. During my commercial I didn't have a choice. With my schedule at the time flying after 5 was all I could do sometimes and by 5 it was already dark. All I could do was make sure everything looked as close to perfect as possible weather wise...

    WAM now called "NexGen" too...

"This system will allow pilots to fly search and rescue missions in weather conditions that would have previously kept them grounded." He Bob, have you seen those missing hikers we're looking for? Nope, all I've seen for the past hour is this big overcast cover. Oh well, thank goodness we...

    Pilot Threshold

My boss is friends with a pretty wealthy guy in town who travels a lot for business and needed a second pilot on call so I told my boss I would happily do it. Well his current pilot gets a hold of me who actually just has his single engine PPL so I don't know if he was just flying for the hours...

    vor question

Don't need to make it too confusing... If you want to fly to a VOR twist the OBS until you get a TO indication with the needle pointing at the station. Fly that Heading. For radials it's a bit different especially since you need to remember that the needle will point to that station no matter...

    Kidney stone experience plus question

There shouldn't be. I went in for my 2nd class medical after having passed a stone 2 years prior. Not being my regular AME as I was living in a different town, he almost went through the roof, had me go do scans, x-rays and an IPV before he would sign me off. Ended up costing me a pretty penny...

    Guiltless old TV pleasures

I'm 30, grew up in the 80's and never really gave a darn about cartoons until my 20's. I grew up at 5 years old watching Knight Rider, A-Team, Airwolf and of course MacGyver. Sadly enough I'd even spend time with my mom at night and watch Dallas, mostly cause my dad traveled a lot for work...

Number of Airline Flights Have Been Cut 40%

The Egyptians ruled for thousands of years yet eventually were wiped out during the Roman period. At one time the bow and arrow was the pinnacle of weapon technology. Now, who even does that? lol What eventually goes up must eventually come down, that also includes businesses, economies...

    Flying Options

Pay off the car and buy a plane. That's what I'm doing. After 10 years I finally realized I don't need a new car every three years. I'm just going to stick with the one I have, pay it off, and buy a plane. Cut down on a lot of the other toys I don't need in my life that I felt were a necessity...

CG aft of datum. How do I figure this out?

Or just download an app for that :-) And yeah, I got 83.4 as well. Just use the ARM.

    I passed: A novel.

Congratz Roddie :-) That's awesome. Definitely keep flying!!!

    Power setting. Why so difficult?

That's because when you are operating LOP you want to monitor EGT not CHT. EGT is an almost instantaneous result, CHT are delayed and require time to stable. After a while you get to where you know where your EGT numbers should be and thus you lean for a particular EGT readout and monitor CHT...

CG aft of datum. How do I figure this out?

Nope, they're just giving you the moment for each section in the problem which is just the weight multiplied by the CG, that's how the 151,593 number came about. If they give you everything you need like they did in that problem, it's just addition, division and multiplication. If you wanted to...

    Written Test Costs

What was the cost of your written? Especially for pilots who've had their license for at least 10 years. My cost was $100 per test in 2005-2006 and I cried like a little girl cause gas was $4 a gallon. I'll take that any day now.

    Memorizing VFR Minimums

If I had that bad of a time memorizing VFR minimums or Vspeeds or whatever, I would just take Brandon's graphic, or another graphic for instance, print it out, laminate it, and keep it with me in the plane. Or just google it on my phone where ever I was.

Universal Studios Hollywood fly-in. Any tips?

I can't see how driving would be a problem... I live in Central Cali in Tulare County by the Sierra's and drive the 4 hours to SD every year and it's not that bad of a drive really.

    Power setting. Why so difficult?

It would be awesome if everyone could do this but without some form of JPI's and Gami's it's not even recommended to go LOP even though I consider it the best way to fly if you ask me as well. Like most people who fly, he's probably stuck flying ROP there for those MP/RPM settings are hit or...

Student Pilot - Intro, thoughts, questions

Just kind of keep track of the hours, Kross, and congrats on the training. It's an awesome thing. I've seen other CFI's try and pull this maneuver before until a student with some common sense steps up and says he's not going to pay for the 20+ extra hours that were snuck into his training at...
