For Sale: Club Membership Great 1966 Piper Cherokee northeast of Pittsburgh

Sadly, I’ve moved over five hours away and haven’t flown the plane in well over a year. This is a GREAT flying club and I haven’t found prices this good anywhere near my current location. It just doesn’t make sense to keep paying my monthly dues if I’m never going to fly her. Aircraft is a...

Cancelled my first flight (an Angel Flight) due to icing threat today

Was hoping to fly from northwest Ohio to the WV area and then over to PA. Online weather forecasts, observations and pireps showed some pretty ugly icing everywhere and low ceilings upon return in the afternoon. Weather briefer said the same. Then a commercial pilot/CFII looking over the...

Another Angel Flight in the books...

And this little guy was a cool dude! Didn't complain once about how cold it was...

Another BFR down...two more years to poke holes in the sky.

I love it when I finally get off my butt, get it done, and think "cool - got it done for another two years." My son is working on his PPL written, so it's probably time for dad to knock out his instrument written too. I can't use the excuse about needing to build up XC hours anymore.

Great Angel Flight on Monday from Michigan to Wisconsin...

Picked up our 10 year-old passenger in Battle Creek MI (BTL) and ATC gave us 12,000ft over the lake (wanted to extend our glide distance to decrease the single-engine-water-pucker-factor). Even made a nice landing into Burlington WI for him, but he was all smiles anyway. Decided to fly over...

Have my first Angel Flight next week...

I've been asking to become involved as a co-pilot with other AF pilots until my hours increase and I get my IR, and have the opportunity next week. I would much prefer that my community volunteer hours go toward flying those in need vs. sitting in a meeting room once a month. It's sometimes...

Looks like a major Frontier fiasco...

Kids and Ex have been stuck at O'Hare since 6am yesterday. First a tail swap, then delay after delay. Guess the Denver storm delayed their flights everywhere else and backed things up. Customers are seriously ticked off because they see all the other airlines lifting off, but not theirs...

Renting some different planes lately and thought I would share local rates

Moved to Northwestern Ohio recently and while I still try to fly our club plane (1966 Cherokee 180) in PA every other weekend, I've been looking for something local to rent as well - to fly something different. Had a few checkouts lately and looking at a couple other options as well. I thought...

I remember when the first solo was what made me nervous...

...And then it was the long cross country solo, and then it was the written, and then the checkride, etc etc. I had to laugh today because after completing my flight review a few weeks back what made me nervous TODAY was my medical exam. Blood pressure...okay, this has been going higher. Deep...

Just to emphasize to student pilots that it's a license to learn...

Approaching one year since I earned my ticket. I only fly once every week or three, but here are a few things I've learned since earning my cert that might be of value or bring a smile: 1.) ATC personnel are usually busy and don't often just call you up to chat. If ATC asks you out of the...

Stretch yourself - Visit new airports...

Posting this just because of what has helped me recently to stay out of a rut and continue to learn and challenge myself. Got my ticket last August and I'm still under 100 hours but doing XC work for my IFR. I found myself going to the same location or two over 50nm to build my time. My friend...

Helped a friend with his new-to-him Glastron - Porn

My good friend / CFI sold his Dakota and was in the market for a nice LSA since he doesn't haul around four people on a regular basis anymore. He flew from PA to FL and picked up a nice Glasair Glastron and flew her back to PA. Thanks to another POA member, I can clarify that this bird is NOT...

First time flying with another IFR student this weekend...

Was a little concerned/cautious because of not knowing the guy, wondering what kind of pilot he was, did he fly safe, etc. Both of us have just over 80 hours total. Turns out he's a lot like me, and we split a 2-hour flight with each of us taking a leg under the hood. Best thing about it was...

First icy runways during IFR training last night...

On a good note, I had a great IFR training flight, nailed my glide slope and localizer better than I ever have before and even hit the right speeds this time - all right down to the minimums at KLBE before doing a touch-and-go. I'm an IFR newbie, so those little things excite me when I do them...

Friend/CFI is flying to Florida to check out some Flight Design LSA models...

After selling his Dakota, an "SUV Airplane" as he called it, he's flying down to Florida this weekend to check out some of the Flight Design LSA models. I'm hoping my 265-lb frame can sit next to him without a W&B issue - and I've asked him to put me on the list of potential co-pilots for when...

My First Passengers (finally) after my PPL...

Checkride at 59 hours, and hit 77.x hours last week. I'd been holding out to make sure I was comfortable taking someone else up into the skies with me aside from my CFI friends. Finally, my 14-year old boy/girl twins got to visit me for a few days in PA (divorce situation, I usually go to the...

Tonite was a "I HATE This..." IFR lesson

Tonite was an "I HATE This..." IFR lesson Winds gusting to 18, direct xwind, got bounced around so hard I couldn't keep my fingers on the radios. Foggles bounced off when I hit the ceiling with my head, etc. We did one approach into KLBE and I didn't even try to land in the chop. Did the...

"Holy Crap!!" Is not the best choice of words...

In a strong crosswind landing, with a person new to GA flying in the right seat. Wasn't me who said it, but rather a friend of an uncle's neighbor's second cousin's mailman with his girlfriend beside him... (Wow, reading that again it kinda sounded like it came from SixPapaCharlie or his...

Dang X-Plane 10 Sim is just like my instructor...

Just got my sim setup so I can practice approaches, holds, etc. Flying into Johnstown, hitting my headings and altitudes, and the sim decides to do a random engine-out on me. Plane wouldn't hold rpm, altitude dropping, then the alternator light comes on. Yikes! I text my CFI and tell him my...

Starting rebuilding another Cub - Pic

While we wait for some FAA paperwork to be completed on the last Cub that was built, we started to tackle another Cub that a couple local pilots co-own. It's a good excuse to get together and wrench on aviation-related things a couple of times a week, especially when flying isn't an option...
