    New Position or New Job?

Sounds like a few battles are going on. I would get my resume polished up and start looking. But on a dual path, I would take control. If everyone was willing to follow except one, then your in. (Sort of) you still need to smooth the waters with K's boss and handle the one last defiant...

    New Position or New Job?

I generally agree with Henning. If the driver seat is empty, take the wheel. This does not mean start directing outright. Do it softly at first and see if people follow. A leader maximizes resources effectively and efficiently. That may sound like a simple statement, but it is actually very...

TFR blocks VFR corridor. How to stop?

Is there anyway to stop or at least complain about a reoccurring TFR? The issue is Minuit Made Stadium has a TFR for any little thing. There is one for baseball training. I generally don't care about TFR's as I just fly around them. But this one blocks the VFR corridor between IAH and HOU. It...

    Musings on glider transponders

What makes it more dangerous now is all the distractions inside the cockpit. Glass panels, iPads, and touch screens are bringing the eyes inside more and more. Many aircraft have ADSB or TCAS. I do. With small transponders becoming cheap, I think it is crazy gliders would fly at anything...

    Car Dent Question

Let the dealership deal with it. If you have to fixed, it will cost you more than the dealership and it may not come out right so they will ding you on the trade in anyway. If this is the rear quarter panel, it is not easy to access for repair. This is around $1k but the cost will depend on...

FAA asking for more info after reporting DUI

I think the OP has the advice he needs. (Get an attorney and work through it) I also think that the idea that he may be out of the running for a "fly for pay" job may be the reality. In my mid 30's, I would have given a little sympathy. But in my mid 40's, I am not so willing to do so. The...

    Window tint?

Window tint film does not work on plastic. Not for the long term. What I have seen done was to get thin plastic inserts made. This is a thin (1/16") acrylic sheet formed and cut to fit the window. It was press fit into the opening and held in place by trim molding.

Can you legally remove the CAPS?

DA40 looks okay except the wingspan is too much for the T-hangar. I will have to check. Other than the wing span, what's the catch? Why only ~$150k?

    Cheap to keep!

T-craft. The most expensive part will be the hangar. Or a Kitfox and you can fold the wings to keep the hangar rent down. I couldn't imagine either would be more than 12k-20k to acquire and cost more than 4k/year for hangar, insurance, fuel and maintenance. (Assuming you don't hangar it in SF...

Can you legally remove the CAPS?

So what you all are saying is that the Cirrus is a death trap likely to not recover from a spin and burst into flames. This sounds so appealing (sarcasm) It probably won't recover from spins because it's CG is too far aft due to the weight of the chute. :) And not being able to withstand a...

Can you legally remove the CAPS?

I know many Cirrus owners would never think of doing this.... But can you legally remove the CAPS from a Cirrus and still fly it. Why? You ask. Because I don't want to have the weight, maintenance cost, or the explosive in my plane. But I do like the SR22 and would love to own one.

HALF of O'Hare noise complaints come from 5 households

My first thought before reading the article was "what a dumbass" but not so much anymore. If I had lived in my house for years and they changed the runway to now fly over my house, I would complain my butt off. I would try to sue the airport for loss of property value. I think most...

    RV6 vs. RV7

I have a -6a and it has a counterbalanced rudder. So this is not a sure way to tell them apart. -6 kits ordered after about 2000 have the new rudder. The only way I can tell for sure, is the -6 spar goes to the center of the fuselage. This makes a peak when you look at the belly. The -7 has a...

    GNS-480 questions

I have a new to me GNS-480. Is there a way to tell if the VOR being tracked is an actual VOR signal or a GPS "equivalent". Is there anyway to get a database update once or twice a year? A years subscription would not be much use to me. Thanks!

    So what should I buy?

I don't have $200K burning a hole in my pocket. This would be a stretch for me. But I do believe in buying what you want the first time. If I have this plane for 10 or 15 years, what makes more sense? I think that is why I lean toward the more modern planes and the experimental's. My RV-6a's...
