    Returning to GA

All good points. It's certainly worth looking at things from a systems prospective. Many of these aircraft have similar v-speeds, avionics, etc. Switching from a PA28 to a C172 with similar engine and avionics is far less of an issue than switching between a C172 that's fuel injected with a...

    Returning to GA

I have access to a ton of airplanes, and I have enough time to hit the books to keep the brain engaged. Money is the major obstacle. Flying 150hours/year isn't an option like it used to be several years ago. The mission is usually long XC, usually day VMC under IFR with the occasional IMC...

    Returning to GA

I've pretty much written off flying the Seminole again for that reason. Fun to fly, but single engine procedures are a very perishable skill.

    Returning to GA

I've returning to flying after a ~3 year hiatus. I've been sticking with the PA28 thus far to keep everything consistent. I've been checked out in everything from a C152 to a PA44 in the past. Considering I'll probably need to limit my hours going forward, I'm debating the utility of faster...

    Skywatch Insurance?

I realize this is an older post, but thought I'd chime in as I've found Skywatch to be a good option, albeit without having the need to submit a claim. They offer renter's insuance by the day/week/month/year. I'm just getting back into flying. Close to 10 years ago, I was flying 100-150 hours...

    KTUL

I'm flying into KTUL for an Angel Flight (KTUL-KAPA) later this week, looking for FBO recommendations. Also, I'll be flying in the day before, any cool sights to see in the area?

Pit stops on XC Phoenix to St. Louis to Denver to Phoenix

I was stuck there a few months ago due to bad wx in the Denver area (ground stop @ DIA even). PUB has great fuel prices but services for an overnight are so-so. Not sure when you were there last. They won't tie down aircraft. No shuttle service to any hotel in the area. Not quite what I was...

Pit stops on XC Phoenix to St. Louis to Denver to Phoenix

Self serve fuel at Tac Air (KAPA) is about the same cost as self serve at KFTG or KBJC. Good food right on the field also (The Perfect Landing). Tac Air will be on the north east side of the field.

    Detroit Tracon Phone Number?

867-5309 Seriously though. http://www.atlasaviation.com/faa%20phone%20numbers/faa_phone_numbers.htm has a list of several TRACON numbers.

    Approach question

I'd treat it as a lost comms scenario -- continue as cleared, land if in visual conditions. Cancel IFR with FS on the ground.

Turbulence and potential storms during training

Better reception of navigational aids More advantageous winds aloft To avoid convective turbulence Increased engine out options Better ability to see landmarks for pilotage Radar coverage better for flight following Reduced fuel consumption Just to name a few reasons.

    Heard on ZDV today...

I was IFR from KBJC to KRAP earlier today. Shortly after being handed off to ZDV I hear the following exchange: Pilot: Center, N123AB request direct my wife. Controller: N123AB cleared direct Crazy Woman Some other pilot: that's awesome. Maybe I'm easily amused but I found that...

Flying into Albuquerque from the east

V12 will get you into KABQ, no need to fly above 10500. Ive done it many times, VFR and IFR. TRACON there is great to work with, no problems at all. Heading there again in just a couple days.

Fight School price Sheet...too expensive or to good to be true?

Welcome to Fight School. The first rule of Fight School is: you do not talk about Fight School. The second rule of Fight School is: you DO NOT talk about Fight School! Third rule of Fight school: someone yells "stop!", goes limp, taps out, the fight is over. Fourth rule: only two guys to a...

    Visual approach clearance

Which I did, but got the clearance anyway. In this latest case, I had landed there many times previously, so I wasn't too worried but thought it was odd to be cleared for a visual when I did not report having it in sight. Thanks for the replies.

    Visual approach clearance

I've had a couple cases now where I've received a visual approach clearance prior to reporting the field in sight. Not a big deal, flying to the LOM and intercepting the LOC is easy enough. I had ASSumed previously the controller had to verify the pilot had the field in sight prior to issuing...
