Yep we’re neighbors of sorts. I‘m based at KHNB, not far from Evansville. I trained out of I91 at Boonville years ago. I figure if I can fly in and out of there, I should be able to do 6Y9 too.

I’ve always called at 5 miles out, flying around C172 speeds.

What are the chances of actually seeing an aurora at this fly-in? I have never seen one, but southern Indiana is usually too far south. Also I don’t like crowds and I’m nervous about flying so far from home. But I like camping, grass strips, and small towns, so there is that.

I echo the ones that say this is between you and your CFI. It’s his neck on the line, and he knows you better than anyone here. If he is comfortable and willing to sign you off, go have fun. The nay sayers here are looking out for your best interest though, it’s the safest option. Er well...
