    Changing to Experimental

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread... I have a 1946 J-3 Cub that I restored. After fighting with Piper and the FAA for the last ten months I have been told to pound sand. They will not issue a new data plate (one I had turns out isn't valid) and it looks like my options are to scrap the...

Real world numbers for a Vans RV-9

My wife and I spent 2.5 years building our RV-9A. We have been flying it for about 15 months and almost 200 hours. It is an incredible plane. It is a blast to fly, and handles like a sports car. It loves to fly up high, I usually cruise at between 9-15,000 feet. I have an IO-320 with a...

How high have you flown in a low HP plane.

I've had my RV-9A with an IO-320 up to FL180. It was still climbing and I think I could have done quite a bit more. Someone on VAF just took an RV (9 or 7?) up to I believe FL280. Did a really interesting write up an VAF. -Dan

Thanks to everyone that came out. We flew 45+ kids, had over nine airplanes flying and more people than I could get a count on! It was a great way to help get excitement going with our new Aerospace Engineering program next year. -Dan

Are you more likely to get a PPL/SPL if you bought your own airplane?

Bought a plane right after I solo'd. Only waited that long because it took a while to find the one (C177) that I wanted. Flew it for four years and about 400+ hours. Finished my RV9A last spring and sold the Cardinal out to my partner for what we paid for it. Saved a lot of money over...
