    Anything new in headsets?

Lots of good info in here--thanks for your input! I've heard really good things about the in-ear headsets here and elsewhere, but my ears have never been conducive to in-ear headphones I can't imagine a headset would be any different, so I think those are out. I hadn't heard of the DC One-X...

    Anything new in headsets?

Hey all, I don't hang around here much anymore, something about work being super busy, but I have a question that I'm hoping someone here may have some insight into. I have your standard David Clark headset right now, but I'm planning to upgrade to ANR once I get my CFI, or perhaps sooner due...

    Most Common Runway Direction

Funny you should ask! I did the math and had a thread on it a couple of years ago. https://www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/and-the-most-common-runway-is.76271/

    Tecnam P92 SOP's

I learned to fly in a Tecnam Eaglet (P92), so I might be able to shed some light, but it's been a while since I've flown it so definitely check with someone else. You're right, Vfe is in fact 68 knots and is low. As I recall, you're also right that there's no provision for lowering partial...

Options for Rentals in NYC Area

I just finished up my instrument rating, so I'm well aware that you're totally right about the 2-3 times per week thing when in training! That's unfortunately not going to be feasible for the near future for me, but I'm happy with the ratings I have at least for now, so that's just how it'll...

Options for Rentals in NYC Area

Thanks for the info. Also first post, so welcome!! I'll probably be flying on the weekends for exactly that reason. I don't like the idea of sitting in traffic for so long.... It looks like the NJ airports (Caldwell and Linden in particular) have the best access, and the places at CDW...

Options for Rentals in NYC Area

I was thinking about the bike idea myself, maybe get a folding one. I'll have to run the numbers to see if it makes financial sense, but I do like the opportunity. I'm not quite ready to get checked out yet, probably another couple weeks before I actually make it to the airport, but I'll...

Options for Rentals in NYC Area

Will do! I'll at least get their lowest-tier (aka free) membership and see how it goes from there. It would be great to meet other NYC-based GA pilots. I have a good friend who trained out of FRG as well, though he was from Long Island and had a car making it super easy. So yeah, I'm well...

Options for Rentals in NYC Area

Thanks for all the replies! The issue I've been running into with the places at FRG is that making the last hop from the train station to the airport is a big challenge. The two places I've seen at CDW both advertise that they will pick you up from the bus, which is nice. I would like to avoid...

Options for Rentals in NYC Area

Since nobody else seems to be chiming in, I'll say that that's the place I ended up narrowing down my choices to after talking to a few places. Do you know how airplane availability is? Whether they let you take the planes on overnights/weekends? Any other good things to know about them, or...

Options for Rentals in NYC Area

Hi everyone, It's been a while since I've posted here (been lurking more since life got crazy in the last year or so while I finished up school), but I figured I'd ask the brain trust about rental options in the New York City area. I just passed my instrument checkride last week (yay!) and am...

    Detroit/Ford Field TFR over Canada?

Just called Approach and had my question answered, so here it is in case anyone else stumbles across this thread or is curious. The TFR extends out to the US/Canada border, which is halfway across the river. You can on the Canadian side of the river if you're talking to Windsor Tower or if...

Is there any reason all of the posts were off by one (picture was one higher than the post count) for me on the first two or three pages but on this page they're all on the right number? Strange...

    Detroit/Ford Field TFR over Canada?

Just when you thought there were no more new (aviation-related) questions we could debate here, I've got a bit of an oddball. Do the US stadium TFRs reach over into Canada? I was hoping to lead a group of four planes on a flight over the Detroit River and downtown Detroit, but alas, there's...

    PIREP on Citizen Skyhawk Watch

Seconded. I've had mine since 2011 and rarely go a day without wearing it. I really love it, so definitely buy it if you don't mind the size! Haha me as well.

When you land at bigger airports, Do you get pressured to land quickly

Flew into Bradley Intl BDL up in Connecticut once in a 172. Kinda sleepy little Class C, though I had an American 737 breathing down my neck. Pretty easy though--went fast until short final, chopped the throttle, dumped the flaps in the white arc, chirp chirp. Pretty fun too. And I'm sure...

    traffic alert

Coming out of the pattern, sure. But even for the local sightseeing flights you can jump on flight following. In my ~4 years of flying I've only been outright denied once, even for many sightseeing flights, and that's flying mainly around the Washington DC and Detroit metro areas. And then on...

Flight following. Weighs less than a feather and costs less than a penny. It's not perfect, but what system is?

    Stick or yoke

Stoke stoke stoke. I'm stoked about the stoke. It's the best of both worlds. Natural stick feel with nothing in the way of getting in and out. I wish every plane had them, but the only plan I've flown with it is the Skycatcher.
