Value Of an Engineless Cessna 150?

A few weeks ago I experienced an engine failure in my C-150. It started with engine roughness and smoke in the cabin. I looked back and saw a trail of blue smoke not unlike an airshow airplane. I hightailed it to the nearest airport and as I set up for downwind there was a total loss of power. I...

    Spark Plug Change Interval Recommendation?

I bought my C-150L in mid-2010 and about 800 tach hours have accumulated since then. The last 400 tach hours have been put on exclusively by me, and that includes aggressively leaning during taxi and cruise. When I purchased the airplane the plugs had a few hundred hours on them already. Up...

    Annual Inspection Date Question

So, it's that time of year again. What determines the date of inspection? Obviously I want the inspection date to be within the first few days of November so that the annual will be good through November 2015. If the inspection occurs during the very last few days of October, can the A&P/IA wait...

    Battery Replacement

FAR Appendix A (c) (24) allows for "Replacing and servicing batteries". Just to be absolutely sure, as the owner and as a Private pilot, am I allowed to replace the main (starting) battery in my 150? Probably a dumb question, but regulations are strict.

    Carb Ice With A C150L

I went for a flight yesterday afternoon and intended to get at a rather high up for some pictures. I did a constant near Vy climb at full throttle with a couple of partial throttle reductions and pitch to near level to make sure the cylinders stayed happy. As I passed through 8500' (leaning...

    ELT Antenna

My 121.5 MHZ ELT antenna has broken off/out of the conical tapered rubber base. The airplane is a 1973 C-150 and it's the standard antenna installed on every other 150, 152, 172, etc. My question is, if I purchase a new one, can I bring it to my A&P/IA to install it (good guy, probably charge me...

    I Got Lasered

So tonight after shimming up the nosewheel axle nuts to get rid of the wheel bearing play, I decided to wait until legal nighttime to test the airplane out and extend night currency. On the second upwind, while dutifully turning 10-15 degrees to the right for noise abatement I noticed what...

    Congratulations To My CFI

My former CFI, Patti Andrews recently made Gold Seal. That gives me a good feeling and it's a heck of an accomplishment!:happydance:

    Question about TetraEthyl Lead

The dangers of lead absorption through the skin are obvious but I was wondering if, after 100LL has evaporated, is there lead residue? It would seem as though TEL evaporates completely, leaving nothing behind, assuming it was spilled on a non-porous surface.

    PAO Airport Day

Tomorrow, most of the day. Anybody here going?

    California Capitol Airshow 9/8-9/9

Anyone here going to this? I try to make it every year from the Bay Area and this will be the first year as a POA member. It's always a great show. Myperks Sacramento has half off tickets for another two days or so.

NA Who Watched The Perseids This Weekend?

Anybody catch the Perseid meteor shower Saturday night/Sunday morning? From North Lake Tahoe and crystal clear skies I saw 70 or 80 in less than an hour and a half early Sunday morning. Good show. :yesnod:

Very Nice Day For Flying, Except for One Thing

I went for a flight today for lunch with a friend to a non-towered airport on the CA coast (KHAF). Beautiful weather which is not all that common with the coastal fog. So I set up to cross rwy30 overhead to enter the right downwind. A Mooney announces that he is established on the right downwind...

    Fuel Cap Question

So I planned to take a friend flying today, started the pre-flight and...the left (pilot's) side fuel cap is missing:mad:. All indications are of theft. It is a 1973 C-150L. The right side fuel cap is vented and the left fuel tank is vented with the tube that exits behind the strut. My factory...

    Insurance Question

From day-one my airplane has been on leaseback with an insurance cost of $2208 per year. This rate is due to the airplane being used for training. It is a Cessna 150L with an insured hull value of $25,000 and the liability limit is $1,000,000. I will go about calling for premium estimates on...

    First Real Soft-Field Landing

Saturday another POA member and I flew to a grass strip, Frazier Lake Airpark. Pardon me, but I'm a rather green pilot. It was fun! I was a little apprehensive about not having a VASI or PAPI, but it was just a matter of keeping the sight picture correct, stabilized approach, 4-500 fpm descent...

Another 100-Hour Letdown, Comparing GA With Autos

So the airplane goes in for a 100-hour yesterday and the mechanic calls me to tell me number 2 cylinder has very low compression. It's the exhaust valve. A couple hundred hours ago the same thing happened with number 1 cylinder. These are semi-recent (~500 hr.) Superior Milleniums. The...

    Centering The Ball

After a nice short flight Saturday, I decided to do an extra few trips around the Patch. We have right traffic here and on one of my circuits turning crosswind I noticed the ball a little to the left of center (I know the dangers of a skid, but it was just a little off). Since I was at only...

    Leaseback Question

Flying clubs take an Ops fee of approximately 20% out of the hourly rental rate. A question for those who are familiar with leaseback arrangements or who actually administer the leaseback themselves: Is it common practice or even uncommon practice for a flying club to take that same Ops fee from...

    Hi! New member here.

Hello Pilots Of America. I am a newly minted (Last November) Private Pilot. I've read the boards for a little while, and the questions have been piling up in my head so I've joined. I am also the proud owner of a C-150L, so no shortage of discussion material there.
