    Hangar Radio

I came across a Sporty's Scanner on Ebay for $10. I couldn't pick anything up at my house ever so I gave it to my flight school. I put an old Mag Mount antenna on it to get it higher and outside the metal hanger building. We were scanning approach and departure as well as the tower and were...

    1st flight, 2015?

I got in a flight this morning, leaving about 11am. It was overcast here in North Florida but just fine for a few hours of flying. Took the wife to two airports she hadn't seen yet but not anything too exciting. Trying to enforce my fly more in 2015 New Years resolution.

Do you like the bigger or mini ipads better?

I have both but use my mini on the yoke when I fly. On longer trips I bring my full size Ipad 2 for back -up.

    PIREP: Sennheiser S1 Digital

I have a Sennheiser Digital I purchased in 2012 at Sun N Fun. It was the last day and the rep doubled the rebate to $200 for me which helped seal the deal. I think they are very good and very comfortable. I did have to send them in for repair during which they replaced the cables. No charge...

    What's your preflight routine?

Very Funny! My priority is to get all the non essential crap done before I start my inspection so I don't get distracted. I pull the covers, chocks, pitot flag, mount the IPAD and headphones, stow anything I have with me etc, before I start my walkaround. I'm still a low hour pilot so I...

    any pireps for chattanooga airport?

I actually was going to post a similar thread. I'm planning on flying up for a crew regatta my daughter is rowing in on November 1st. In addition to airport of choice, the wife was curious about leaves changing colors in the area when we are there on October 31st through November 2nd. So what...

    MAI to Washington, DC

I took the Special Flight Rules class 405 this weekend so I'm up to date with that. I don't think I want to takle Dulles this trip, maybe next time. I think it's down to 2W5 or Manassas. Since I plan to come in on a Sunday afternoon and leave very early on a Saturday I might better do HEF...

    MAI to Washington, DC

So I watched the big FAA training course and have my certificate in hand. I did some internet searches and couldn't find the information about obtaining my PIN from somewhere outside DC so I'll stay outside the FRZ for this trip. I may try to get that while I'm in DC so I'm set for next trip...

    MAI to Washington, DC

Thanks for all the information. I have to stay in Crystal City, my office is there and they are setting up the hotel. I don't mind paying a bit for a cab since the office will reimburse me, but probably not more than a ride from Dulles would cost. I'll have to look at these other airports...

    MAI to Washington, DC

I have a trip for work to the DC area, Crystal City in particular in a few weeks and thought I would fly myself. I'm a relatively low hour pilot so I was not looking to get too complicated with the SFRA and thought I could fly into Leesburg JYO. I've been studying the charts and between the...

    Gonna get an iPad

I have a mini and an Ipad2 both loaded with Foreflight. I fly both a 172 and a 182 regularly and have a yoke mount for both ipads. I use the mini in the 172 and the bigger Ipad2 in the 182. Sometimes in the 182 I will mount both for longer trips as it gives my co-pilot passenger something to...

They could always offer up a service for everyone like legal assistance coverage as part of your base membership instead of an add on.

Student Pilot - Video Report of my First Night Flight

It's very different from my night training in very rural North Florida. I was actually amazed how far off I could see the various airport beacons.

    feedback: Halo vs. UFlyMike

Thanks for the review. My wife has one of the Bose headsets for airline travel and I been considering the UflyMike setup to give me another noise canceling headset.

Looks and sounds like a 182 - is it the same?

In the air it's hard to tell it's not a real one. I imagine those landings are harder than it looks. It looks like it had either differential braking or a steerable nose wheel which is cool to go with the flaps. I've never done RC modeling but this plane makes you want to.

One feature FF won't ever have...

I want new plane smell. Not sure I'll ever know what that smells like. I am familiar with old plane smell, really old plane smell, and old rental plane smell.

Anyone's CFI putting an iPad on the yoke?

My instructor would review my electronic flight planning and compare it to my paper plans. He hadn't used Foreflight before so it more just a gee whiz thing. He especially loved the Geo referenced approach plates.

    "Get-there-itis" to finish flight training

I did my first twenty hours in 6 months but then joined a club and had to switch instructors. The new instructor had a month of great availability and then was going to get busy with his real job. We did three to four lessons a week for that month and finished up. It was hard but I thought I...
