Anyone Maintaining a medical with current/existing medical problems?

I have two conditions I must address. One is sleep apnea. I see the doctor annualy with sleep machine logs and with a brief checkup he will hopefully write positive comments that the FAA evaluates and approves. The leaky heart valve is less subjective. I undergo a yearly echocardigram and...

undefined allergies - what to do?

Yesterday, I underwent an alergy evaluation. First, the tech rubs my back with something cool and that was kind of pleasant. I am shirtless and lying on my stomach. I did not see what instruments of torture she carried into the horror chamber. First, she drew little designs all over my back...

    Choosing an Optometrist

Before cataract surgery, I was 20/400 in both eyes. After the lens implants, I was 20/15 right eye and 20/20 left eye. I am more than damn proud. I am obnoxiously proud. Still have to wear readers for really close work.

    Landed and went off runway

I did not go off the runway and acuually it was one of my best greasers. I landed in a 30 K direct crosswind. The lesson learned for me and it was a good one is to always note the wind sock (sounds basic I know) and what it is doing. I kept my Comanche in a hanger on the east side of the...

Tips for Taxiing in a 172

I thought this thread was written for me. I have flown/taxied many planes over the years including owning or at least owning 1/3 of a PA 24 Comanche 180 and have not had difficulty taxing any airplanes. Now, I am flying and trying to ground steer this 172 Bravo model and on the ground it...

Block 13 asks: 13. Has Your FAA Airman Medical Certificate Ever Been Denied, Suspended, or Revoked? Is a deferment considered a denial? After complying with more than a myriad of medical branch directed steps I was issued an SI and the 3d class. Now, I find out I will have the pleasure of...

Ah, to be a charter pilot...

My best friend flies a King Air 350. Often, he takes his wife along and the two of them vacation on the clients nickle. However, when he has to RON with newer clients he generally stays at a different hotel. This help keep drunk clients from wanting him to fly at the drop of a hat. Smart man...

Got to see a B1 Bomber today

Since I started this "show & tell" I was a member of the long defunct Fort Hood Flying Club. One day I was flying that SUPERSONIC C-150 when the tower advised that their were multiple "heat seekers" arriving Gray and it might be prudent to return to suspend activities for a few moments later, a...

Got to see a B1 Bomber today

While transitioning class D airspace with ATC approval I must have gotten on the good side of the ATC guy as he vectored me flying a 172 within a couple miles separation and 2000 feet lower than a B1 bomber doing touch and goes at KGRK. Gray Army Airfield. What a fantastic sight.

    Would you squawk 7500?

I would say the possibility of having to squawk 7600 or 7700 should be a lot higher then someone trying to hijack a light or sporty aircraft. Does not mean it will not happen. Not too long ago a disgruntled pilot flew his own aircraft into the Austin, TX IRS building. Would he have stolen or...

    Pitot Tube Cover

I am a photographer and a pilot. I equate this to leaving the lens cap on while trying to take a photo. Both give you instant awareness.

3rd class medical in line for review

It took me from the time I flunked the physical about seven months with a lot of tenacity and Dr. Chien's to satisfy the FAA and receive the 3d class with provisions. Yes, the lady in OKC is very nice. I should have sent her a basket of fruit. Yes, I will do that.

Special Issuance? Leave the Authorization Letter at home after 7/20

Goody! That means I have 11 days I do not have to carry mine. I have to resubmit a sleep doctors statement by 31 July that I no longer have daytime sleep issues for a years extension to the class III.
