    Becoming a DPE

This thread just illustrates another reason that I think the FAA is why we don't yet have flying cars.

Two dead after Mooney door pops open. St Augustine FL

That's how I took the thumbnail image and the progressive track from the YouTube video replaying the tower audio. I expect the track was based on the ADS-B Out data from the accident aircraft's transponder, and that data would be available to the NTSB investigator. I didn't presume the track...

Two dead after Mooney door pops open. St Augustine FL

I had a similar thought. The Mooney apparently went in steeply -- it was difficult for the police helicopter ("Knight 2") to find it at first. If it went in under a more controlled attitude, it could have been expected to leave a more obvious and lengthy scar in the vegetation canopy. Tower...

Two dead after Mooney door pops open. St Augustine FL

I listened to the tower audio of this incident. It didn't sound like either the pilot or the controller were particularly alarmed when the pilot reported the door popped open and requested to come around and land.

    Newark Approach Moving to Philly?

Thanks for the link. This is hardly the first time NY Approach has made the news due to "staffing issues". That said, my experience as a GenAv FLIB has been more favorable with NY Approach than Philly, particularly for Bravo transits.

    Newark Approach Moving to Philly?

Unfortunately, this mass media news story is not very clear about exactly what is proposed to change. It sounds to me that Philly Approach will take control of airspace that feeds Newark tower, whichbusee to be controlled by New York Approach. But unless I'm mistaken, the controllers of that...

Trent Palmer (YouTuber Bush Pilot Channel) Suspended By FAA

by the FAA, an executive agency before an employee of the NTSB, another executive agency to the full board of the NTSB, the same executive agency whose employee conducted the hearing and rendered the decision. Putting aside the fact that the NTSB board is made up of political appointees, who...

Trent Palmer (YouTuber Bush Pilot Channel) Suspended By FAA

That wasn't what you said. You said 'The FAA gave him his ticket; they can take it away. He can get a license elsewhere if he doesn't like it.' If we're all just flying at the whim of the Administrator, then the volumes of written law and pesky little restraints on government like The US...

    What's For Dinner?

My wife's mother hails from the North Sea Frisian Islands just off the German coast. They make a wintertime kale dish called Grünkohl mit Pinkel. Kale is stewed with all manner of smoked schweinefleisch (speck [belly], kassler rippchen [smoked loin, bone in, whole or as chops], butt...

Comments like this are why I'm tired of pretending that everyone WANTS to live in a free country.

Would you be interested in some form of back-up propulsion for your piston single? If yes, how much would you be willing to pay for it?

Looks like PW Canada beat you to the market. Good luck with the GenAv market.

Trent Palmer (YouTuber Bush Pilot Channel) Suspended By FAA

I'm glad the FAA never does anything as dangerous as telling pilots to land on a taxiway within 500' of people... *COUGH* *OSHKOSH* *COUGH*

    What's For Dinner?

My guess is they call it that when they batter and fry a boneless chicken breast (or worse, ground chicken patty); vice "Fried Chicken" which implies cut up, bone-in fryer parts.

Don't take it all so personally. Besides, the beauty of a capitalist economy is that if you're right and everyone else is wrong, then you stand to be in a better position to become fabulously wealthy due to the information imbalance. I'm sure the Klapmeyer brothers profited handsomely from the...

91.146 charitable flight, have I got this right?

The problem is when an individual inspector or an entire regional office (perhaps because of the influence of a particular supervisor) decides that the best way to make sure "nothing bad happens on their watch" is to do their level best to ensure "nothing [] happens on their watch". They don't...

Form (friction) drag is lower by the speed difference squared. Induced drag is proportional to the square of the lift, but inverse to the square of the speed. All else being equal, if the airframe/powerplant combination can lift 1000 lbs while moving at 210 kts, the same combination lifting...

    What's For Dinner?

I'm picturing a steamship roast like you sometimes see on Sunday brunch buffets -- but crusted in a fried flour coating. My experience with CFS is they usually use a sub-par cut and mechanically tenderize the **** out of it to the point that it's pre-chewed. When craving southern cooking I...
