    Amazon Echo

I'm not an audiophile, so when my stereo died years ago I never replaced it. Instead I just used the music channels from my cable TV company, and more recently, the TuneIn app on my SmartTV. But it never quite got the sound you get from radio speakers. I wanted an Echo from the moment I saw...

    PBY Search

The "Super Cat" conversion was done to a number of PBY's, mainly for firefighting. Tail, engines and nose were the tell tale signs.

    Acro instruction

I went the drawn out route, mainly due to the winter weather here in the Pacific Northwest. Never considered heading down to someplace sunny for a few days to get started, but now I see that has some great advantages. Check out Flipside Aerobatics, Will is a friend of mine and has convinced...

Which is safer motorcycles or GA?

Lies, damn lies and statistics... It's not an apples to apples comparison, simply you have a much larger population of Darwin award candidates on two wheels that two wings. Riding, like flying, is all about risk assessment. I ride year round, except on ice when I know it's out there...

    ADS-B... Yay, or Nay?

My Pitts I'm going to move to Eastern Washington where I have a hangar and we fly most of our contests. No need for ADS-B there, and I can get to all my other contests I attend from there without needing it. The Eagle I'm partnered in will need ADS-B, I don't foresee moving it outside of...

    ADS-B... Yay, or Nay?

Curious as to how many, like me, will seek routes to not have to deal with ADS-B mandates.

    Need Clarity Aloft questions answered...

+1 for the QT Halos. It's now my primary headset for the last couple years and work fantastic in my Christen Eagle and Pitts. Lots of the aerobatic crowd are moving to CA and QT for the lightweight comfort.

    Aerobacits

Champ vs. Extra Ya know, it's not when everything goes right. It's when everything goes wrong that you'll be glad you're in an airplane stressed for +/-10G's. Since it's a rental, and they have the Extra on the line, I expect they don't approve of acro in the Champ. It's their sandbox...

    Another Booze Thread - Bourbon

Must be neat... occasionally an ice cube if temp is warm. Water to whiskey is like air to wine. Start neat, add a drop of water, taste, repeat until the taste is to your liking. That's your ratio.

Washington- Fort Lewis- Where to land and where to stay?

TIW is closer and there are some nice "small town" style accommodations in Gig Harbor. I'm sure you could arrange for a rental car through one of the FBO's. Be aware, that there is a toll to cross the bridge to get to the Tacoma side. So if you're here for a longer stay, there are nice hotels...

    Tailwheel lock

I have a Haigh style locking tailwheel on my Pitts and a steerable API on my Eagle. Even with the TW locked, there is some allowance for steering, and using rudder works just fine for taxiing. If I need a sharper turn, unlock TW and press a brake. Pretty much the same with the Eagle's...

Landing at closed and "abandoned" airfields?

Correct. It's not an airport, it's just land.

Why dont ppl carry helmets with them for emergency's?

The "to helmet or not" conversation is endless in the aerobatic community. For a number of years I've worn the DC K-10 helmet and then one from Protec. Last year I started using the QT HALO headset and have not worn a helmet in the Pitts or Eagle. I've enjoyed not having *any* weight on my...

Landing at closed and "abandoned" airfields?

If it's no longer an airport, you'd have to have permission from the landowner to purposely land there. It's not like an emergency or glider outlanding where there isn't much choice of continuing the flight.

    Should I buy a parachute?

When one attends Allen Silver's Bailout Seminar, you learn it's safer to stay with the plane than leave it. Unless it's on fire, or missing parts... big parts.

background checks for EAA Young Eagles pilots?

Bingo. SSN's are not needed to determine a person's criminal history.

background checks for EAA Young Eagles pilots?

I've done the CAP background check as well, submitting fingerprints at local police. No problem with that. This one from EAA is odd though, the requirement for SSN is not needed for a check. I do them whenever I interview prospective employees and contractors, and I never needed their SSN...

    Pessimist view of GA

I suppose we could all just sit here and ***** about it behind our keyboards. Or you can go out and friggin' do something about it! This is NOT rocket science! Share the magic of flight with people. https://www.facebook.com/AviatorFlightTraining/videos/1113665028657726/...

    Pessimist view of GA

I don't understand the problem. New starts are new starts, and if it works and can be replicated, then why dwell on who's starting and get out there and replicate what works!
