NA - What are the food rules? / Cross Contamination

One of my latest bouts was wings from a national chain shop. I went online and reported the incident. About 4:30PM the next day I got a call from the county health department. They had visited the shop and found a fridge that was not keeping the raw food cold enough. The shop go to throw out...

    Electronic engine performance calculator?

Simple, run LOP. For NA aircraft 14.9 HP per gallon of fuel per hour. For turbo, 13.7. So in my plane, if I am running 10 GPH, that is 137 HP. 137/220 = 62.3%

What plane would you fly "just for fun" and to build experience?

My choice would be a Grumman Tiger. Fun to fly. But fast enough to go places if you end up wanting to do that.

    T-Mobile

You need the $250 a month mobility plan. That will work up to about 270 knot ground speed. Supposedly they are working on a cheaper plan for aircraft, as the number of hours per month would be a lot less.

I have used it in flight. At times, you have to wait as the sat it wants to use is behind you.

NA - What are the food rules? / Cross Contamination

I did not pay that much attention. But in the south, you find a lot of canned corn and tomatoes combined. :D

    Cabin heater to reduce corrosion?

It is a big part of it. No moisture, you get little to no corrosion.

Night Time qualification for commercial pilot

My initial thought was NO WAY. But reading it, as a Fed Reg, you are correct. They use OR, which means one OR the other and they do not modify each other. May not be what the FAA intended, but that is what the reg states. And looking at the overall intent, it is that if you were to carry a...

1st time plane buyer, needing advice.

It depends on the flight school. AFAIK, my local flight school owns their aircraft.

    Engine Monitor Upgrade

This is what I was told, the official answer is no, you need to install the probes that came with the primary display. That said, it seems they are the same part numbers, so at least a couple of shops told me they just use the ones installed if they are the same part number.

    Throttle Lock

How many per year? And what makes/models? I have heard of planes being stolen to use to make drug runs, but again, how many? I haven't heard of any airplanes of people I know or that they know for the some 45 years I have been in and out of aviation.

I am more about just making mine a bit harder to get into, so they will break into YOUR airplane. :D

    Hangar heater Recommendation

Again, ANY fuel burning heater that does not exhaust the combustion products outside the hangar will add moisture. And that can lead to corrosion in your plane.

Read the reg. 91.119(c) If sparsely populated, you have to stay 500 feet AWAY, not 500 about the surface.

Night Time qualification for commercial pilot

Probably not. I had a fun one with a Federal Reg. The office that wrote the reg put out an official interpretation of what it said. I disagreed. I finally found the guy who wrote the reg and the interpretation. I told him he was wrong. He insisted he was right. So I asked him to take out...

    717 question:

There was an article somewhere that they were refurb and flying them. Maybe not -80s, but some series of MDs. Again, the purchase plus refurb and higher op costs were cheaper over some number of years than a new airplane with lower op costs.
