Ouch...a full month, all of GA, FL, SC, most of NC, a big chunk of AL, and pieces of TN, and VA.

For less than three hours a day, all in the late evening, and with breaks during the test periods? Hardly "a full month" of outage.

Wow. I assume this is advisory, and you can still fly using GPS providing the RAIM doesn't raise any flags?

Actually I wouldn't call 7pm "late evening", and it covers a huge swath of territory.

I'm not familiar with that lat/long notation and can't get to certain websites at work. The linked map (radius around a point) isn't giving me the results I'm expecting an I'm interested in this outage.

Anyone have another link?

The PDF linked at FAA Safety in the original post has a map with area circles.

No problem; we can always use the fully-paid-for, reliable, hard-to-jam system that we have in place, Loran.

Oh. Wait.

Huge is relative, and it ain't so big at lower altitudes where GPS becomes really important for us light plane flyers.

Still a huge area even at 4,000 and 10,000.

I'd post a map of that, but RunwayFinder is still down. :incazzato:

We'll call it "GPS Appreciation Month"... don't forget to bring a stopwatch and a compass! :D

The area is centered out in the Atlantic Ocean roughly 40 miles due east of Kings Bay Base Georgia (just north of the FL/GA border) .

If you copy this 30 49' 06" -80 28' 11" and paste it into google earth or http://maps.google.com it will show you the center.

Chris

Thanks for the clarification. Just couldn't get to it at work.

Huge area. Glad I'm not in it...which means I can still find my way to work:idea:
