Last weekend I saw Jon Anderson and he pulled out something he called a mountain dulcimer. Sounded kinda cool, so I thought I'd post it here for our resident twanger. Ever played one?

Interesting, cool sound too. I had not seen one of those before. I am familiar with the hand hammered dulcimer as it is very popular in the old time music circle.

The only one I've seen was at a county airport just west of the Tennessee River (OM4). Went into the "FBO" to pay for fuel and grab a coke. When I opened a door, the dulcimer was there. Talked with the gentlemen for a good bit and he said he played on occasion but we didn't have time for a jam session.

Never played one, but I've heard a few at various folk festivals I used to attend when I was a long-haired hippie-type.

Interesting instrument.
