Nurse in photo died yesterday...

And I wonder how many of you knew what I was talking about before you clicked the link?

I haven't clicked the link yet, but I'd bet you're talking about the nurse being smacked by a sailor in the famous photo taken in New York upon news of the Japanese surrender.

She will be forever remembered as a young 20ish year old.

RIP

That was the first image that came to mind, but I had to click before committing to it. :)

First Mr. Wolf Guts and now her... The WWII generation is quickly leaving us.

Makes me want to stop by the WASPs at Osh and thank them while I still can.

You are correct.

My dad passed a couple of weeks ago. As I mentioned elsewhere, he was an officer on the Missouri for the Japanese surrender at the end of WWII. My biggest regret is that I didn't have a chance to scan all his pictures and get all the stories from him before he passed. Fortunately, some of those stories are on record in the letters to his parents from ship and from his visit with one of the docents at the Mighty Mo in Honolulu where it's tied up.

So.... I highly recommend that you visit with any of the WWII vets while you can - hear the stories and thank them for their service.
