First aviation headset- choice?

Good choice. A wise person told me years ago to consider your budget the 'sunk cost' for your hearing protection. Buy a current headset with a warranty, upgrade when necessary and trade or sell your used headsets. So I have effectively been rolling my initial budget forward for the last fifteen years, and have always had the almost latest headset.
 
Lightspeed Zulu 3's are my choice. Best combination of price and performance after trying a dozen headsets.
