Howdy - anyone replaced a GX55 GPS with another box, such as a Garmin175, 355, etc.? Rough install cost? Antenna cable re-use, etc, data-out to an AP?

Seeing quite a few of these grand old boxes while airplane shopping, and flew behind one quite a bit a few years ago.

They fit in the same rack space but the wiring is all different, including antenna and coax. A/P connection is going to depend on the A/P and everything in between, but these boxes do GPSS as well as simple L/R deviation.

GNX375 was 26 hours install labor.

Any advise on Gi 275 versus L3

If you are asking Garmin GI-275 vs L3 ESI-500, GI-275 hands down. ESI-500 is a nice unit, but considerably more expensive and less capable.

Thanks appreciate your input.

Thanks appreciate your input. Do you have any other recommendations instead of GI-275

I replaced a GX50 with a 175. Coupled to an KI525A so had to use the resolver out instead of digital, but could use a lot of existing harness with dsub connectors. Had to make up an annunciator panel. ARINC to a DAC gpss unit driving an STEC 60-2. Hardware fit in the slot so changing the rack was easy. You'll need a mini-pin crimper. Already had the RG antenna cable installed, so that was a bonus.

Probably 15-20 hours all in.

Love it, great little unit.
