Daily Pic

I'm floating in the restricted zone waiting for the coast guard to pick me up. Sending this via my InReach. Couldn't get the starlink to float well enough to maintain a signal.
Do you have your fishing tackle with you? How about a piece on preparing raw fish:goofy:

Night currency is hard to keep during the summer since I'm usually not flying at 10pm, so I let it lapse. And that gave me a good excuse to go for a sunset/night flight 2x this week!
(Also relearned the importance of checking your flashlight batteries BEFORE you take off; mine were weak and died in flight...)

Landing video (GoPro): https://gopro.com/v/rD93dDEbNeo42

When I turned on course I felt like I was flying into an A-Bomb blast from the sun.

Final for RWY 10 at DPA. Night landings are my absolute favorite.

Second night taking the plane out. Unfortunately all my photos from the second night are too dark because I accidentally left the sun filter on the gopro :(

I need to get up there... Have driven up, but not flown it yet.

Wind related, but not a plane. Took this a couple of weeks ago when visiting Boston. USS Constitution, from the harbor side. To me, a positive reminder that while we're far from perfect, people have been screwing around with us for a long time, and we've always managed to figure out some sort of way to deal with it.

We got 4 adults all rounded up in a Mooney, and had a very good flight out to Madison, WI and back. Ramp was hopping with the college football game in town. Myself, happy I could show my in-laws a little bit of this little bit of good fortune, this time machine, to go to some other city and expand our horizons in people and places.

a peek over soon-to-be-fall countryside, NE WI.

Saw this exec jet on the ramp with Gogo 2Ku ... and my guess is retired Virgin America...

Wow, pretty... VFR on top is pretty cool...
<spends the next 30 minutes checking the weather every 10 seconds to verify that I'm not going to be stuck on top...>

Lakehurst... are these blimp hangers?

PXL_20220920_143002222-XL.jpg

Yes they are.

Now look above the blimp hangers, there is a circular pad of some sort. Helo practice pad? now slightly above the circular and also to its left: there are five pads with paved paths to a single pad. Looks like a landing area for Scottish Bagpipes. Kidding aside, what is this?

Looks very similar to a shotgun five-stand layout. I can't image the recoil that shotgun has!:yikes:

I know, I know, this is the daily PIC thread. well actually this is like 30 pics per second, times 9 seconds, so that's what, like 400 pics or something.

I said "or something", sheesh
You did, and I'd say you were in the ballpark of numbers with three digits. But providing a qualifier while acceptable in many places, holds little meritorious value on POA.

I used to work at Lakehurst. That's hangars 5 & 6, yes, blimp hangars. Out of the picture at the bottom are hangars 1, 2, & 3. Hangar 1 is the monster, I've seen a photo of the Hindenburg in it with two smaller airships alongside it.

You can just see the old airfield at the bottom of the image; the paved area to the right is where the Hindenburg crashed. The five steps are indeed catapults; used for ground testing. While I was there we all got to watch a F-18 shot into the nylon webbing emergency barricade.

Here's the same thing from lower and farther (5 miles) away, you can see the other hangars.

This is at least the second time they have stored new pickup trucks at this closed speedway. I was here a few weeks ago and the place was empty, not tonight. To me that is a amazing amount of new trucks. What color paint do you think they buy the most of?
