Does anyone know if it's possible (or even desirable) to pick up a passenger at KBED without using one of the FBOs?

Kbed is a massport field with tight security. You need a badge to get in and out. Fees are up there too. You'll need to use a fbo and are supposed to be escorted on the ramp if you don't have a badge.

I picked up a buddy from Signature several years ago at BED- my first time there. Massport fee - $15, Signature fee $87. I paid them $50 after a long argument, and had my buddy go to OWD. Ridiculous, stay away as a transient. If you join one of the clubs there, I don’t think those guys pay the fees.

the simple answer is: no.

OWD or LWM or (maybe) 6B6 are better alternatives... certainly more GA friendly... way more friendly to the bugsmashers

longer answer: you could try contacting a local club to see if there is a way

Thanks for the info. In this particular case, LWM might be an alternative. Do you know if the Signature fee would have been waived with a fuel purchase?

I had a meeting in June in Bedford. Called to let them know I was flying in. “We look forward to seeing you, oh just one more thing there is an ‘ Event’ fee that day. $1500. What! Turns out they were shaking people down for the US open. Flew into OWD and took an Uber to Bedford. About 15 minutes longer.

I learned to fly at KBED many years ago and it was a good airport but after 9/11 massport took it over and essentially it became no man's land. Stay away from there unless less your plane is on fire.

No recent experience at KBED because my experience there 30 years ago was unfriendly. The biggest complaint at the time was the curfew restrictions curtailed my fun in Boston. Interesting that my vintage experience into Logan both times was vastly superior, being right in the city, but I know it is at the ridiculous extreme now and undoubtedly far far far worse than BED. It was memorable though.

ASH is an alternative as well

8AA4 Crow Island is a fun little airfield close by as well. Approach is over the river, grass field.

I got my license centuries ago at BED . The airport is a mass port airport and fees are exorbitant. Would be easier to use OWD.

Just flew back to BED this afternoon, 8 in the pattern. No answer, has to circle for a bit until it lightened up.

I was just at OWD last week, excellent airport, top notch FBO (Flightlevel Aviation) Marshall's were there to park us, FBO gave us a crew car to use. Very pleasant experience with a resturant on the field (Taso's).

Yes - I think it is 1000 gallons. Sorry- no waiver for fuel
