This is fairly local to me Shelbyville 2H0 is an old school GA airport. One paved runway with a functioning NDB approach (now also overlaid with GPS), two well cared for grass strips, reasonable fuel & hangars, and a nice little office/ bathrooms. It's my favorite place to go tune up my grass ops for summer.

Of course the driving force is the manager Scot, who's mentioned in the article. He's an AP/IA and runs a shop in the big bowstring truss hangar. If you stop for fuel, he'll come out and help you and chat for a bit. I'm not surprised he facilitated the forming of a new club, but it's nice to see him get a little recognition.

An airport manager makes or breaks an airport, particularly these little rural ones.

Unfortunately they mostly break… arg.

Agreed, nice to see a good one get a little good press!

AOPA resisted the flying club model for over 50 years opting to push private ownership, now they crow at #200 clubs. Should be 10,000.

With the high prices clubs are becoming more popular.AOPA and EAA have caught the wave and hopefully will continue to support flying clubs.
