Person jumps from aircraft landing at RDU

The word on local news is that they’ve found a body with injuries consistent with a fall, but no confirmation. This is weird.

just checking, is Trevor Jacobs ok?
 
Not sure who Spore is but that aircraft has been operated by a a military government contractor in the past. Typical CASA 212 that the Army contracts out.

Spore shares the mailbox with Rampart. Lots of flights around Ft Bragg. Looks like its still part of the contractor world.
 
It seems I remember one of those crime shows where a husband and wife went up for a flight and she "jumped."
 
What the...why...huh?

I don't get it. Landing gear failure is not that big of an emergency. Why would you jump? Why would anyone jump without a chute? So many questions!
 
You have to time the jump right before impact. The Road Runner could do it, Willey Coyote not so much.

According to this the wheel came off after a hard landing attempt at Raeford and they were able to get back in the air.

The crew can be heard explaining that the plane, which was using the callsign Shady 02 at the time, lost its right main landing gear wheel after what they described as a "hard landing" at Raeford West Airport outside of the city of Raeford to the southwest. They had managed to get airborne again afterward.

@SixPapaCharlie has been trying to sound the alarm, but people apparently still aren't getting it. Don't open the door in flight or you'll get sucked right out.
 
Looking at this Casa 212 design I can picture someone getting sucked out of that door easily. If that’s what happened, who would suggest opening a door to look at the gear? That’s crazy.

It was a skydiving plane, they fly with the door open regularly.

Apparently the pilot has stated that the SIC did actually jump, toward a body of water. This will be an odd one.

Yeesh. And the plane was damaged in a “hard landing” just prior? Was there maybe a fight for the controls?
 
Between the news reports, rumors, and guesses, the real story is a mystery.

Yes. The runway doesn’t make the airplane harder to fly and the airport where they had the hard landing was hardly challenging. Based on some of the other news coming out about this event I would say there is a lot we don’t know. And it’s probably not anything to do with the airplane.
 
Appeared to have departed the airplane towards a body of water..... there may be a cell phone somewhere nearby.

well, he missed. The area they reported finding the body is halfway between two large lakes. He didn’t hit either.

So the guy jumps or falls out 20 miles away from RDU. Looking at the flight track that means this fall or jump happened before the plane made its first attempted landing at RDU. The first landing attempt was at a high speed, compared to the next landing which speed looks more normal. Strange indeed.
 
Given the mental upset from the departure of the right seater, it is perfectly reasonable that the pilot did not sequence into a normal landings speed in those first minutes.

Second time, he should have recovered, and followed check lists properly for that landing.

For the nit pickers here, he should have had time to decide whether to talk with the tower, or file his NASA report first. The first few minutes after the departure of his companion must have been a time of wild mental gyrations, regardless of why the companion departed.

The first time wasn’t a landing, but a flyby to have the gear checked.
