Battle Ground VORTAC

My wife grew up outside La Center. The part of St. Helens that they could see from their place isn't there anymore. Something happened in 1980...

Didn’t see a church. Doing the 5(yes,THE 5, not I5, I lived in California for 30 years where proper reverence is given to freeways:)) would have been way out of my way. I live close enough just doing surface streets was faster. The road closure is still there but the barricades were off the street on weekends.

I know it's a bit off-topic.

The practice spread to Arizona quite quickly.

In Goodyear, we live just a couple of miles off the 10, between the 303 and the 101.

It is weird that the TACAN is separate and so far away from the VOR. I have not seen that before.

...And we called Interstate 5 "Highway five."

Why would you call “The 5” “Highway 5”?

Because it is short for "Interstate Highway Five."

We never refer to interstates as "the highway," like those weirdos in Atlanta. The proper term is "the freeway!"
